The Sankeien garden is an extensive garden located in the Honmoku district of Southeast Yokohama, looking out over Tokyo Bay. The garden was created by Hara Sankei (Hara Tomitaro), an entrepreneur who made a fortune as a silk trader. Within the Sankeien, historic buildings relocated from Kyoto, Kamakura etc. have been skillfully positioned for best visual effect; the Sankeien now contains 10 buildings that have been designated as National Important Cultural Properties, and three that have been designated as Tangible Cultural Properties by Yokohama City Government. During Hara Sankei’s lifetime, the Sankeien garden played an important role in the cultivation and supporting of avant-garde artists; some of the classic works of modern Nihonga painting—including Maeda Seison’s “The Uprising of Enryaku-ji Monks” and Yokoyama Taikan’s “Ryuin”—were painted here.

I have a yearly pass that’s truly one of the treasure of Yokohama. I would would recommend Visiting at different times of year.

This food theme park, which opened in the Shin-Yokohama district in 1994, was built around the concept of being able to eat ramen from all over the country without having to fly there. The interior, which recreates a Showa-period retro townscape, hosts famous ramen shops from not just all over Japan but from around the world. Attractions other than eating ramen include a gallery featuring exhibits on the history of ramen, a museum shop that offers souvenir ramen kits, a retro candy shop, events including live music, street performances, and picture story shows, and more. Standing displays of color drawings from the museum’s collection of approximately 50 thousand are changed on a regular basis and include examples from popular series such as Doraemon, Perman, and Kiteretsu Daihyakka. Special exhibits are also held regularly which give visitors the chance to view rare drawings and other materials never allowed to leave the museum. Located in Sengokuhara district, Hakone, the Hakone Grasunomori Museum (Hakone Venetian Glass Museum) is Japan’s first museum dedicated to Venetian glass. It actually comprises two museums: the Venetian Glass Museum itself, which has on display around 100 masterpieces of the delicate, finely-wrought Venetian glass for which there was a vogue among the noble families of Europe between the 15th and 18th centuries, and the Modern Glass Museum, which displays Venetian glass dating from the 19th century onwards. Particularly worth seeing is the approximately 10-meter-long crystal glass arch over the bridge between the garden and the Museums; the arch is made from around 160,000 pieces of crystal glass, which sparkle in the breeze. The Hakone Grasunomori Museum offers glassmaking experience activities (including sandblasting, etc.), with participants being able to make their own pieces to take home as a souvenir.

Nicknamed the “Enosui” by locals, this aquarium is located inside Shonan Kaigan Park. The aquarium’s beautiful exhibits, designed to evoke a wondrous undersea world, are quite popular. The spherical “Jellyfish Planet” aquarium houses 14 varieties of jellyfish lit up with beautiful lighting. Once every hour, the world’s first 3D projection mapped jellyfish show is held throughout the entire floor. Enoshima Aquarium is filled with entertainment. A school of some 8,000 Japanese sardines can be seen swimming in a giant aquarium replicating the environment of Sagami Bay. An edutainment facility, another exhibit at the aquarium maps ocean currents and presents the various sea life which visits the area seasonally.

This battleship became a flagship of the Combined Fleet in December 1902. It was restored by the Mikasa Preservation Society in 1958 through domestic and international donations and government grants and was opened to the public for viewing. They have both 30 and 60-minute viewing plans available, as well as a plan for groups of 10 or more. Onboard you can learn about the history of the Mikasa and the warfare through a variety of displays that include items like a 36 radiotelegraph, 15-centimeter secondary battery operation room, and documents written in the hand of staff officer Akiyama Saneyuki. You can reach it by taking the Mikasa Junkan Bus from Keiyu Yokosuka-Chuo Station to the Mikasa Koen Stop.

Lots of interesting information and can pretty much access most of the ship. At only ¥600 (£~4) for adults its definitely worth it. Theres also a nice park located to the side.

"This municipal history park, located a 15-minute walk from Keikyu Yokosuka-chuo Station, faces Yokosuka New Port and was designed based on the theme of ""water, light, and sound."" An art museum located in Hakone Town, Ashigarashimo County, Kanagawa Prefecture. The museum’s collection consists of some 1,500 pieces created by French jeweler and glass artisan René Lalique. The museum’s standing exhibition displays approximately 230 select items from amongst this collection. Visitors can view pioneering masterpieces which anticipated modern jewelry trends, perfume bottles, flower vases, and building ornamentation produced by Lalique in the latter stage of his career. There’s also an actual Orient Express train car which was decorated by Lalique and which visitors can actually see inside.

Kanagawa Areas

Kanagawa prefecture acts as an extension of the Tokyo metropolis that spills over into coastal towns, most notably Yokohama city, heavily populated and known for its Chinatown and seaside attractions. Just the right distance for a day trip out of Tokyo, Kanagawa is home to some of Tokyo’s most accessible beaches, including around Kamakura, best known for its Big Buddha.
