    This scenic lookout is located a short distance south of Konokuchi Park along the road on the east side of the Shikinejima Island. The site was discovered by island residents and is maintained by volunteers. From the observatory, visitors can take in the vivid contrast created by the blue sky and sea, bare white rock, and lush greenery; you can also see Miyakejima Island and, on clear days, all the way to Mikurajima Island. The area is also known as a habitat for black-tailed gulls and is a perfect place to go birdwatching. The observatory is one of Shikinejima's top sightseeing destinations.

  • Kanbiki Observatory

    This scenic lookout is located a short distance west along the coast from the Maruyama Compass Stone on the northwest side of the Shikinejima Island. The observatory is situated at the top of 100 stone steps on Mt. Kanbiki which is 99 meter high above sea level, and from here you can see Kanbiki Bay and, beyond that, Nakanoura Beach and Oura Beach. In addition, on clear days, you can see all the way to the Izu Peninsula, the Izu Islands, and even Mt. Fuji. Because of its beauty, this view has even been selected for inclusion in the 100 Views of New Tokyo list. This spectacular view is well-worth the effort required to see it.

  • Miura Bay Observatory

    A 10-minute drive from Kozushima Port. This observatory adjoins the Kozu-hondo road on the southeast side of the island and, as its name implies, from here visitors can take in a view of Miura Bay and its surroundings. Miyakejima Island and Mikurajima Island can be seen directly ahead. At night, the observatory offers a view of star-filled skies and is a popular destination for stargazing and astronomical photography. Also famous as a place from which you can see a gorgeous sunrise on the first day of the new year, many tourists gather here before dawn on New Year's Day. The observatory is also located in an area which makes it easy to visit before or after going mountain climbing in the area.
