An authentic Spanish bar located close to the Shinjuku Gyo-en garden. Pelota means ball in Spanish, and as the name implies, this bar is designed with a relaxed atmosphere in mind. The restaurant's menu of wines and sherries, served by the glass and easy to enjoy, includes around 20 varieties, from Spanish and natural varieties to ones that are extremely flavorful despite their reasonable prices. The authentic, local Spanish cuisine served alongside is made with select ingredients from specific areas, and includes tapas perfect for snacking, paella made with seafood and saffron, and more. The bar also offers private party plans.

Was just around the corner from our hotel, simple tapas foods. But best off all, the food was excellent and the Spanish wine was really good! We ended up staying longer than we’d expected. We will be...

The specialty of this cafe, located along Waseda-dori Street in Nishi-waseda, Shinjuku City, is Brulee French Toast, which intentionally slightly burns the surface of the toast. Meals offered include the Roast Beef Bowl and a Granola Salad, made with discriminatingly selected fresh vegetables and ingredients. For drinks, they offer specialty coffees, and cold-water extraction coffees as well.

The bakery in Nishiogikubo is marked by its wooden owl sign. Found down a narrow alley, this hidden gem has a relaxed atmosphere. The name, Entuko, comes from the Tohoku dialect word for a basket to hold your baby while you work in the fields. They offer over 40 different types of bread baked fresh every morning. Their most popular usually sell out just after noon. Their best seller is their chewy, hedgehog themed Nishiogi Hari-kun made with lots of chocolate chips. Our recommendation is the Entuko Toast, bearing the shop's name, rich with fermented butter and aromatic Hokkaido wheat.

This retro-cafe is in Koenji. The atmosphere of this shop, long loved by locals, is preserved just like it was at its founding, and it attracts many intellectuals. The menu is almost all house-original, and their vegetable, keema and coconut curries are particularly popular. All their dishes, from the Pasta Napolitan to their cakes and desserts, and carefully made with select ingredients. Their brewed-to-order tea and coffee are all high quality. They are open till midnight every day of the year.

A veteran tonkatsu pork cutlet restaurant founded in 1921. A five-minute walk from Shinjuku Station, this shop nestled on the back streets of Isetan is said to be the birthplace of tonkatsu. The specialty is ton-don, pork cutlet curry on rice. The hearty dish features a chewy cutlet covered with a simple, old-style curry. The cutlet is coated with a mille-feuille-like crust that's soft enough to cut with a spoon, so it's popular among people of all ages . It's often tough to get a seat at lunch during the week.

I was taken here by a Japanese friend who thinks it is one of the best Tonkatsu and Ebi-Fry restaurants in Tokyo, and I have to agree. It was absolutely delicious! Ive been back here every time I go...

"A Western restaurant serves their specialty rolled cabbage stew cooked with the same recipe they've used since they opened in 1963. Located on the backstreets of Shinjuku Alta and popular with the locals, they operate on the motto of ""Eat and Drink Your Fill."" The succulent dish in a thick cream sauce features rolled cabbage that's so soft it easily cuts with a knife. They also serve pork stew, cream croquettes, fried shrimp, Japanese rice omelets, and more. Acacia dishes out their rolled cabbage not per roll, but by an old-fashioned Japanese weight unit called a ""kan."""

Tokyo Areas

around-area-map

The setting of countless iconic movie scenes and the inspiration for songs, poetry, and literature worldwide, Tokyo barely requires an introduction. It’s hard for the kaleidoscopic neon lights, wacky pop culture, and some of the world’s tallest structures not to instill excitement in any first-time visitor to Tokyo, whether you’re in the very center of the hustle and bustle in Shinjuku or Shibuya or looking in from the quieter suburbs.
