    Tokyo Sumida-ku Higashimukoujima 4-28-16
A museum located close to Higashi-Mukojima Station in Higashimukojima, Sumida City, Tokyo. The museum opened in 1989 in celebration of the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the Tobu Railway company. At the corporate museum in Yokokawa, Sumida City, Tokyo, a collection of materials related to the history and culture of the former monopoly of “tobacco” and “salt,” is displayed. It moved to the present location in 2015. On the third floor, the museum exhibits “tobacco” which was born in the Americas and spread to the world, as well as materials on the tobacco culture in the Edo period. You can learn about salt history and knowledge through exhibits and quizzes on the second floor. Several times a year, various exhibitions and special exhibitions focusing on tobacco and salt are held.

    Tokyo Sumida-ku Mukoujima 1-4-5
A Shinto shrine located in Sumida Park in Mukojima, Sumida City, Tokyo. The shrine was built in 860 to enshrine the god Susanoo no Mikoto. Today there are three principal deities enshrined in the shrine. It is believed that if you are sick, rubbing the same spot on the Nade-ushi (rubbing cow) statue on the shrine's grounds as the affected part of your body will cure your illness. On the final day of the shrine's annual festival in September, local neighborhood associations parade around with portable shrines and bring them onto the shrine grounds.

Loved the combination of the nature walk yo the shrine, the interesting gifts to the Emperor along the way, the wooden doors at the temple/ shrine. Was all very tasteful and beautiful.

Finally, the museum sells origami paper as well as books and magazines published by the Nippon Origami Association and others.

This was a highlight for my son, who loves origami and has many books about this. This is small and a little off the beaten path. There are numerous intricate examples on display. There’s also a...

Tokyo Areas

around-area-map

The setting of countless iconic movie scenes and the inspiration for songs, poetry, and literature worldwide, Tokyo barely requires an introduction. It’s hard for the kaleidoscopic neon lights, wacky pop culture, and some of the world’s tallest structures not to instill excitement in any first-time visitor to Tokyo, whether you’re in the very center of the hustle and bustle in Shinjuku or Shibuya or looking in from the quieter suburbs.
