A large-scale Chinese restaurant located near Shinobazu Pond in Ueno, Tokyo. The restaurant was opened in 1961 as a palace dedicated to serving the best Chinese cuisine in the world. Totaling nine floors, the restaurant was remodeled in 2015. In addition to serving Chinese food, the building also hosts a Japanese restaurant, banquet halls, cafe, and wedding chapel. The restaurant's exquisite food, deemed Toh-Ten-Koh cuisine, consists of unique takes on Cantonese and Fujian dishes, styles particularly favored in Japan. Toh-Ten-Koh's stunningly huge menu of authentic Chinese cuisine includes lunch and dinner courses as well as a la carte options. Tokyo Skytree is visible from the restaurant towering beyond Shinobazu Pond, and the cityscape at night as seen from here is beautiful.

    Tokyo Taito-ku Ueno 1-10-10
"A Japanese confectionary shop located close to the Ueno 3 Chome intersection on Chuo-dori Avenue a four-minute walk from Okachimachi Station. The shop's name, literally ""Rabbit Shop,"" is derived from the fact the original owner was born in the year of the hare. This long-standing establishment continues to follow the same policy of ""superb flavor, low prices, and container recycling"" implemented when it first opened its doors in 1913. The shop's signature products are its dorayaki pancake sandwiches filled with sweet Tokachi azuki beans; and its kisaku monaka half-moon-shaped wafer cakes filled with smooth sweet bean paste. The shop's dorayaki have a crisp outer dough made with lotus flower honey and are counted as one of the three best dorayaki in Tokyo. As they are packed while still hot off the griddle, customers are urged to eat them as soon as possible."

They make great dorayaki. This is worth the drive. Awesome stuff. You often see people eating it outside of the shop. Not able to wait until get home. If you’re around get one and try it out.

This coffee shop operating out of a townhouse with exposed beam construction built in 1916 has been a neighborhood fixture since 1938, nearly 70 years. The cafe was remodeled and reopened in 2009. Beyond the shop's glass ceiling, you can see the Taisho period beams and wood ceiling, and the building's pillars and exterior remain unchanged from when it was first constructed. The cafe's Showa period signboard, tables, and chairs are also all original. In this charming cafe you can experience Japan's bygone Taisho and Showa periods.

    Tokyo Taitou-ku Yanaka 3-11-18
A renowned shaved ice shop that started out as a simple street stand. The shop stands in the Yanaka neighborhood, which still bears traces of its old Tokyo downtown atmosphere. The shaved ice is cranked out by hand just as in the good old days, and the shop uses spring water ice created slowly with natural outdoor cold. Himitsudo also uses fruit juice in place of artificial syrup, creating a truly luxurious treat. The shop keeps straws on hand so you can slurp up the slush at the bottom of your cup. Himitsudo is so popular, it issues numbered tickets at peak times.

    Tokyo Bunkyou-ku Nedu 2-12-15
Located in a building in the Nezu part of Tokyo’s Bunkyo City that is designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property, this is an unusual spot to enjoy kushi-age (fried food on skewers) using plentiful servings of seasonal tastes. The restaurant, which is in an old three-story wooden house that survived the Great Kanto Earthquake, welcomes you with a very nostalgic atmosphere that is purely Japanese. Beginning with the “starter set” that features six types of kushi-age including carefully selected meat, fish, and vegetables and two types of shusai (appetizers to go with drinks), you can order an additional set or just one skewer at a time. There are also private dining rooms available for extra charge.

Love this place and try to visit every time Im n Tokyo. For a while it was closed but was pleasantly surprised when it re-opened. The lunch menu revolves around kushiage which is different items...

Seiyoken was founded just after the Meiji Restoration as a pioneering Western cuisine restaurant. Grill Fukushima was later created to serve as the restaurant’s main dining location. The restaurant’s stew, made with a demi-glace sauce crafted according to traditional techniques, and its twice clarified double consommé soup are both particularly exquisite. Note that Grill Fukushima aims to provide proportions and flavors as appropriate to the nature of the party and customers. Conveniently accessible from Ueno Station, the restaurant also has a dedicated parking area.

    Tokyo Taitou-ku Ueno 3-23-3
A yoshoku Japanese-style Western cuisine restaurant founded in 1905 which serves old-fashioned breaded pork cutlets. Ponta takes select cuts of pork loin and carefully removes excess at and gristle. The meat is then breaded and deep-fried slowly at relatively low temperature in lard made from the trimmed fat. The restaurant's cutlet recipe was invented by its original owner, who worked as a chef for the Imperial Household Agency. Ponta's cutlets are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. In addition to pork cutlets, Ponta serves a selection of other delicious gems made with Tokyo seafood, including deep-fried Japanese tiger shrimp and deep-fried sillago, as well as stewed tongue and sauteed pork.

This is a traditional tonkatsu or pork cutlet restaurant in the Ueno district. Close to the Okachimachi station it has the kitchen on the ground floor and seating for about 18 on the first floor...

Refined yoshoku dishes such as Hayashi rice made with a demi-glace sauce painstakingly stewed and strained for over a week; splendid red wine tongue stew; and piping hot shrimp gratin with hearty, plump shrimp are sure to delight the tongue. Tokyo Bunkyo-ku Nezu 1-23-9-104
This taiyaki shop is located a three-minute walk from Nezu Shrine. They sell freshly baked taiyaki at this compact shop that looks out over Shinobazu-dori Street. Their taiyaki that have thin, crisp shells with red bean paste filled all the way to the tail are popular items that inevitably sell out. They are sold out a few hours after they open, and it is not unusual for them to close the shop early. The tightly packed red bean paste is moderately sweet and is rendered elegantly, so they have a reputation for making you go for the next one without even thinking about it.

This breakfast snack is best enjoyed piping hot and eaten on the spot! The crispy outer fish cake and red bean go so well together that youd be happy eating it. Staff is super friendly in taking...

This veteran anmitsu sweet shop has been operating since 1948. The name Mihashi comes from the three bridges that used to be on the approach road to Kaneiji Temple. While anmitsu is their specialty, they provide a menu of simple, old-fashioned Japanese sweets. A variety of seasonal fruits makes their periodic anmitsu a hit. The Ueno Main Store also offers light fare like oden hot-pot, sekihan red rice, and bean jams including kidney bean.

The setting of countless iconic movie scenes and the inspiration for songs, poetry, and literature worldwide, Tokyo barely requires an introduction. It’s hard for the kaleidoscopic neon lights, wacky pop culture, and some of the world’s tallest structures not to instill excitement in any first-time visitor to Tokyo, whether you’re in the very center of the hustle and bustle in Shinjuku or Shibuya or looking in from the quieter suburbs.
