Founded in 1806, this long-established washi (Japanese paper) shop has steadfastly continued to support a lifestyle of washi for more than 200 years. Their “gampishi” with its smooth writing feel was sold to the commoners of Edo, and became famous for its solid reputation. The storefront features a diverse array of washi-based products including washi, Japanese trinkets, stationery, kinpu (envelopes for monetary gifts) and noshibukuro (paper bags in which to put presents), and conveys the essence of Edo to the present day. Works by some modern painters such as Takehisa Yumeji, Shibata Zeshin, and Kawanabe Kyosai are even incorporated in the products. The closest station is Nihombashi Station.
