    Sakura Juntendo Memorial Building commemorates Juntendo, the medical school and clinic founded by Sato Taizan, a practitioner of Dutch medicine, in 1843. The remaining parts of this building, which was built in 1858, has been designated a Historic Site of Chiba Prefecture. The Memorial Building contains medical books and medical instruments used at Juntendo in its early days.

    Mushrooms are grown in Sakura Kinokoen (Mushroom Farm) without the use of any agricultural chemicals, and visitors can gather shiitake or wood ear mushrooms here. There is also a roofed-over barbecue area on the grounds with a capacity of 160 persons, so that visitors can immediately cook and eat the mushrooms they have just gathered. They can purchase additional ingredients in the shop on the premises, as well as bringing in their own food and beverages.

    ハウス内で菌床栽培のしいたけ狩りを楽しめます。入場料、時間制限は無く、良く吟味できます。質は良く新鮮で高価です。高速道路料金や時間労力をかけて行くに足るかは考え方次第。

    This sake brewery is in I, Sawara, Katori City. Established in 1825, it uses the early rice and exceptional water from the embankments of the Tone River region. Tours of the brewery are free (reservations required for 15 or more), where one can learn about the sake making process and enjoy sake tasting. The shop on the grounds offers sweets made from sake and other specialty items.

    佐原の蔵元です。 有料で試飲ができますが、車のため我慢。 ショップで販売されている商品は、マスキングテープやシャツなど、色々増えていました。 今回は前掛け生地で作ったバッグに入った日本酒日本入りセットを購入。 お支払いはカード他、〇〇ペイ系も利用出来ます。

    This tourism farm is located 20 minutes from the Sakura Interchange of the Higashi Kanto Expressway in the direction of Shisui. Here, one can eat all the strawberries they want with no time limit. Incorporating EM (Effective microorganism) farming methods that use such organic bacteria strains as yeast and lactobacillus, such popular varieties of strawberries as the Akihime, with low acidity, and the Benihoppe, which has a balanced acidity and sweetness, are produced here. The strawberry picking season lasts from around the end of January to the end of May every year. Vegetables and fruits picked in the morning are shipped out of the direct sales store year-round, and they also sell seasonal soft-serve ice cream and a rare strawberry soap.

    The Isoyama Kanko Strawberry Garden cultivates strawberries across a one-hectare area. They naturally offer strawberry-picking, but also provide more interesting experiences like making strawberry parfaits and strawberry daifuku. The spacious rest area features bright tropical construction and sells wonderful sweets. You can take a break and eat some sweets, or simply do some shopping, so it’s perfect if you’re short on time.

    こちらのいちご園のシーズンは1月からだそうです。山武のあたりは12月くらいからスタートするところが多いのですが、ちょっと遅めのようです。

    成田山へ行く途中の参道にある漬け物のお店です。店頭に有ったはぐら瓜を頂きました。中に唐辛子が入っていてピリッとして懐かしく感じました。平成や令和と入ったお饅頭やお菓子も売っていました。

    This museum is adjacent to the Suigo Sawara Ayame Park at the edge of Yodaura Bay. They have a permanent exhibition that teaches about the area including with themes of the nature and history of the Tone River and the Agriculture of Chiba Prefecture. There are many historical items related to water transport on the Tone River, such as a 1/5 scale takasebune model boat. Some exhibits showcase the history of this waterfront area with film and audio, and the museum's many small-scale displays are intriguing. There is also an aquarium and a pond on the premises where you can observe the flora and fauna of the Tone River. There are fun activities for kids, too, like feeding the carp in the pond.

    An old temple said to have been founded by Jikaku Daishi Ennin in 838, it is a Tendai sect temple dedicated to the 11-headed Kanzeon Bodhisattva. The simple wooden Niomon gate was built in the Bunki era (1501?1504) in the Muromachi period, and it has been designated as a national important cultural property as a rare building that conveys the architectural style of the Momoyama period (1573?1603). In addition, the main hall built in 1696 was designated a tangible cultural property by Chiba Prefecture. You can see cherry blossoms in the spring and autumn leaves in the fall, making it a place where you can enjoy the changes of the four seasons.

    Straddling Sakura City and Narita City, this lake is the largest in Chiba Prefecture. Frequent land reclamation projects have been conducted at the lake since the Edo period (1603-1868), and today it is divided into two stormwater management reservoirs, one to the west and one to the north. The surrounding area is maintained as Chiba Inbanuma Park, with facilities such as a wild bird forest and cycling roads. Many freshwater fish inhabit the lake, making it a popular fishing destination as well.

    Sakura was once a castle town, and former samurai houses stand along one of its streets: the former homes of the Kawara family, the Tajima family, and the Takei family. Built late in the Edo period, they offer a glimpse of the everyday lives of the samurai. Visitors are allowed inside the Tajima house, but the Kawara house is open only on special occasions.

    These castle ruins are located in Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture. Built in 1610, the administrative headquarters of the Sakura Domain was placed here in the Edo period (1603?1868). Currently, already an abandoned castle, the site is maintained as Sakura Castle Ruins Park. Inside the park, besides being able to see the castle tower ruins and large tactical dry moat, you can also enjoy the many seasonal trees.

    A strawberry farm adjacent to Roadside Station Mizu-no-Sato Sawara along the Tone Suigo Line Road in Sawara, Katori City. They grow three types of strawberries, Akihime, Benihoppe, and Kaorino, and are open for strawberry picking from late December to May. The strawberries are grown in a two-tiered upper and lower tier system making it easy for every to pick strawberries, even children and those in wheelchairs.

    利根川の河川敷にある、小さないちご狩り園です。観光目的の農園で、規模は小さく、また、今はシーズンではないのか、ひっそりとしていました。

    This historic structure is on the Onogawa River in Sawara. It was a wholesaler and Nara style pickle maker that moved to its current location in the Edo period (1603?1868). The shop was destroyed by a big fire in 1900 and rebuilt. Both it and the 1798 earth-walled storehouse are Prefectural Tangible Cultural Properties. The surrounding area as a whole is designated an Important National Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.

    "The Old Hotta Manor, built in 1890 is the site of the home of Hotta Masatomo, the last lord of the Sakura domain. Standing in the center of an expanse of lawn, it has a splendid modern Japanese-style garden that takes advantage of the ""borrowed scenery"" of the plateau on the opposite shore. This garden is affectionately referred as ""Sakura Garden."" In 2006, the five main buildings, the storehouse, and the guardhouse were declared National Important Cultural Properties, and in 2015, the entire grounds including the garden were designated a National Scenic Beautyas ""Ex Hotta Masatomo Garden""."

    To reach Nakamuraya Shouten, visitors should walk for about 15 minutes in the direction of Chukei bridge from Sawara Station on the JR Narita Line. Built near the end of the Edo period in 1855, it is an atmospheric general store that deals in sundries, general merchandise, and tatami mats (and other items made of soft rush grass), and in 1993, it was designated a Prefectural Tangible Cultural Property. The actual building is a must-see, and it still in business as a store. Customers can buy small, charming mini parade floats, Boshu fans, and other highly individual Japanese-style sundries that are found nowhere else.
