It was originally the Kawagoe branch of the former Bushu Bank. Built in 1928, it was handed over to the Kawagoe Chamber of Commerce, which still owns it, in 1970.

    Saitama Pref. Chichibushi Kuroya 567
The site of a native copper mine on Mt. Wado in Kuroya, Chichibu City designated a historic Cultural Property by Saitama Prefecture. It is recorded that native copper from the mine was presented to the Imperial Court in 708 and used to cast Wado kaichin, Japan’s first circulating coinage. A five meter tall statue shaped like a Wado kaichin has been erected on the site of the ruins; the grounds are also the location of Hijiri-jinja Shrine, believed to be deeply connected to the history of the presentation of the native copper to the Imperial Court, and the shrine has become popular in recent years as a mystical “power spot” said to increase one’s luck with money.
