    This waterfall is located in Tonemachi-okkai, Numata City. It is referred to the “Niagara of the East” because of the way the river water falls majestically into the V-shaped valley. There’s a walkway around the waterfall along with natural sights such as “Masutobi Waterfall” and “Hannya (Wisdom) Rock” and the “Ukishima Kannon Hall.” In addition to being designated a Natural Monument and Place of Scenic Beauty, it has also been chosen as one of Japan’s 100 most beautiful waterfalls.

  • Osen Falls

    This waterfall is about ten minutes by car from the Kusatsu hot spring town in Agatsuma County, Gunma Prefecture, and about a further 30 minutes on foot from the parking lot. The water falls 25 meters and the white water flowing over the red rocks is delicate and beautiful, just like the femininity the name implies. There are many shallow places in the river, and visitors can walk near to the basin of the falls to see it up close. Depending on your fitness level you can chose from two roads from the rest area—a steep bath or a bath with a gentle slope that takes some time to walk. Past the waterfall there is a large Katsura Caramel tree of over 300 years old, boasting a height of 35 meters, selected in the 100 Largest Trees in Japan. On the other side is a large Japanese Horse-Chestnut and there are many things to see here.

  • Urami Falls

    These falls are large cascades with a 50-meter drop located near Hotaka-jinja Shrine in Minakami Town, Tone County, Gunma Prefecture, and are also known as Horai-no-Taki Falls. Legend has it that Yamato Takeru-no-Mikoto prayed here for rain. Originally the falls were observed from behind, hence their name, but recently, due to the danger of rock falls, it is forbidden to take the path behind the falls. The view from the lookout nearby is spectacular and the water splashing as it flows into the basin is breathtaking. You can feel the minus ions around you.

  • Sandan Falls

    "This waterfall is part of a river in Nanmoku Village, Kanra County, Gunma Prefecture. The cascade drops 50 meters, falling over three levels, ""sandan"" in Japanese. It's accessible via a parking lot on Prefectural Route 108. A walkway leads to the waterfall with a few kilometers' hike. It's not entirely flat, so you need to be careful. Along the valley leading to Sandan Falls you'll encounter numerous other cascades both large and small."

  • Enmusubi Falls

    This small waterfall is in the forest along the Akaya River, which flows through Sarugakyo Onsen. There is a small cave nearby and a shrine dedicated to Kannon. Legend says that long ago a young man whose wife left him went there to pray. He came across a young woman who had been let go from her husband's family. They became a couple and spent many happy years together. Today women and men visit in the hope of having the same kind of luck as the couple the legend. Near the shrine, there's a board for hanging votive plaques with prayers written on them.

  • Tamadare Falls

    Tamadare Falls is located on the foot path that links Kazawa Onsen and Shin-Kazawa Onsen. Visitors should cross Rindo Bridge and walk along the stream until they see the falls. Even though it is only five-meter high with a narrow flow, it resembles a bamboo curtain (tamadare) as it drops. The nearby rocks are covered in moss, and the falls are surrounded by lush, green, trees. This simple, natural scenery creates an ideal spot for relaxing and forgetting your worries. It is also a habitat for the Japanese clawed salamander. During the winter, the falls often freeze, and the trail is closed due to snow.

    Asama Great Falls is the largest waterfall in Kitakaruizawa. Seeing the huge amount of water powerfully crashing down is a sight to behold. About five minutes downstream is another impressive sight, a set of three waterfalls called the Uodomeno Falls.
