  • Hanekoshi Gorge

    """This gorge is along the Nishi-Joshu Yamabiko Highway in Hakusan, Shimonita Town, Kanra County. Carved by the flow of the Kabura River, the gorge's narrow width gives it the name ""Hanekoshi,"" which means ""leaping over"" in Japanese. It's part of the Shimonita Geopark as recognized by the Japan Geopark Committee."

    The Shirasuna Valley, a 90-minute drive from the Shibukawa-Ikaho Interchange on the Kan-Etsu Expressway, is famous for its beautiful fall foliage. The best time to see the foliage is from mid-October to early November, and drivers can enjoy the sight of the colorful leaves decorating the Shirasuna River cutting across Kuni, Nakanojo Town on the Shirasuna Valley Line extending from National Route 405 to 292. Ozen Waterfall is also located in the area, as well as walking paths. During the fall foliage season, visitors can enjoy a relaxing time taking in the beauty of the crimson leaves and emerald green river.
  • Fukiware Valley

    "A picturesque valley located 25 minutes from the Numata Interchange on the Kan-Etsu Expressway traveling along National Route 120 toward Nikko in Nikko City, Gunma Prefecture. Fukiware Falls, found inside the valley, is a seven meter high, 30 meter wide waterfall which flows down a huge crack in the bedrock, and according to legend its plunge basin leads to the mythical palace of the Dragon King. Other highlights include beautiful places sculpted by the forces of nature like Masutobi Waterfall (""Trout Jumping Waterfall""), whose name is derived from the trout which vigorously jump and climb its waters; and the Hannya-iwa (""Prajna Rock""); as well as the Ukishima Kannondo, a temple believed to have been built in the early Heian period. Visitors can also enjoy hiking in the area and there are bridges and platforms which allow the area's waterfalls to be viewed up close scattered about."
  • Agatsuma Gorge

    A 3.5 kilometer long gorge extending from the Gangasawa Bridge spanning the Agatsuma River to the Yanba Bridge. Created by the waters of the river eroding lava spewed by an ancient volcano, this beautiful gorge is referred to as the “Yaba Gorge of Kanto,” a reference to another beautiful gorge. Hiking in the area is particularly recommended around mid-April when the Rhododendron dilatatums come into bloom, in May when the new green of spring emerges, and from late October to early November when the fall foliage is at its best. The sightseeing trail starting at Shishitobi Bridge takes about 25 minutes to walk one way; some of the trail’s many highlights include overhanging cliffs, curious rock formations, waterfalls, and a viewing platform offering a sweeping view of the gorge.

    This canyon is located along the Tone River near Mizukami Hot Spring in Minakami Town, Tone County. There’s a walkway for visitors to stroll down as they enjoy the seasonal scenery the canyon has to offer. Also, there are nighttime illumination events year-round, which can be seen from the Mizukami Bridge and the Yubara Bridge.

    This valley is located at the tip of the watershed areas of Tonegawa River tributaries, and is a famous spot in Minakami Town, Tone county, Gunma Prefecture. Enjoy a stroll in this mysterious locale, as clear water flows through the verdant valley. Many visitors come here, especially to see the 11 different waterfalls, all named by the poet Shuoshi Mizuhara. The season of autumn leaves from mid to late-October is quite popular, featuring a brilliant contrast of white misty falls and colorful trees.
