    Gunma Pref. Annakashi Nishikamiakima
    In this plum grove in Annaka City, Gunma Prefecture, about 35,000 plum trees are planted over 50 hectares in the hills of the Akima River’s upper reaches. It is one of the best plum blossom viewing spots of the Kanto area and is one of the three largest plum groves in Gunma Prefecture. The Akima Plum Festival takes place during peak flowering season, with various events like a mochi rice cake pounding contest and flea market.

    This famous cherry blossoming spot is in Naegashima-machi, Maebashi City. Approximately 1,000 cherry trees run 1.3 kilometers north to south along both sides of the street, and at peak season they form a gorgeous cherry blossom arch. It's been chosen as one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Sites and places annually on other lists of the best places to see them too. Miyagi Senbonzakura no Mori Park opened off this road in 2013 and has over 500 cherry trees of different varieties.

    Located just a five-minute walk from the World Heritage Tomioka Silk Mill, Otomichan’s House is a souvenir complex that houses a tourist information center and a rest area. This complex sells a large variety of silk products, sweets and other local specialties that make great gifts. The mascot of Tomioka City, Otomichan themed goods are very popular too. Tour tickets for the Tomioka Silk Mill are available for purchase here as well as power-assisted bicycle rentals. The Machinaka Sightseeing Information Center is a welcoming place for all.

    The Takasaki Kannon towers over this renowned cherry blossom viewing destination located a 25-minute drive from the Takasaki Interchange and Maebashi Interchange on the Kan-etsu Expressway. The grounds are planted with some 3,000 Yoshino cherries and the sight of the 41.8 meter tall, 6,000 ton Takasaki Kannon surrounded by cherry blossoms is truly stunning. During the blooming season, the statue is lit up from sundown until 22:00 from the Municipal Kannon Sancho Parking Area. In most years, the best time to see the blossoms is from early through mid-April, and during the Takasaki Spring Festival, the road is lined with stalls and the area bustles with visitors.

    This roadside station, located 15 minutes from the Shimonita Interchange on the Joshin-etsu Expressway, carries an abundance of products made with Shimonita's famous kon'nyaku devil's tongue jelly. Adjoined by a kon'nyaku factory, visitors can see how kon'nyaku products such as kon'nyaku sashimi and kon'nyaku miso pickles are made and packaged. There's also a farmers market selling products made with kon'nyaku as well as renowned Shimonita Welsh onions and fresh vegetables. The station offers a wide variety of kon'nyaku samples for visitors to taste and find their favorites before they buy. In addition, the station has a restaurant, and its specialty Shimonita croquettes are particularly popular.

    This plum grove located in Haruna Town, Japan’s largest plum producer, is about 40 minutes by car from the Takasaki Interchange on the Kanetsu Expressway. The area, incorporating Takasaki City's “Misato Plum Grove” and Annaka City's “Akima Plum Grove”, is known as “Gunma’s Three Major Plum Groves”. About 120 thousand plums, mainly white, are planted on the extensive area of land. When the plums flower the whole hillside is enveloped in white and the fragrance of plum blossom. The Cultural Center Ecole, surrounded by plum groves, holds the “Haruna Plum Festival” and all sorts of plum related events, during the blossom season. The best time is from the beginning to the end of March.

    Situated a 20-minute drive from the Matsuida-Myogi Interchange on the Joshin-etsu Expressway, this park was opened in 1983 to serve as a space for prefectural residents to relax and refresh as part of an event celebrating 30 years of local government autonomy. Entry is free. The 47 hectare grounds are equal in size to 10 Tokyo Domes. There are 5,000 cherry trees on the park's grounds spanning some 45 varieties such as Yoshino cherries, and during the blooming season in spring the park bustles with families. Seasonal events are also held here, and visitors can participate in things like cherry blossom viewing parties, cherry blossom photography sessions, and vegetable dyeing classes.

    This tourist spot to shout out is on the northern route of the Tsumagoi Panorama Line. It began with an event where husbands shouted out their love for their wives in the middle of a cabbage field, known as the “kyabechu” (the cabbage kiss), and the hill has made Tsumagoi Village famous as a sacred place for loving husbands. Before shouting out your love there is a bell to ring, as well as a shouting platform that has been reported on by international media, and a hugging platform. After shouting “I love you”, which husbands find difficult to say on a daily basis, couples time slip back to their newly-wed days, rekindling their love. The hill overlooking the magnificent Mt. Asama is a tourist spot for drives and closed during the winter season.

    This townhouse is located 25 minutes from the Kan’etsu Shibukawa Ikaho Interchange. It was the residence of the resident minister of the then Kingdom of Hawaii and was one of the properties Robert W. Irwin used as a summer villa. It is one of the few buildings in Japan which were once owned by the Kingdom of Hawaii and is now a designated Historical Site. The townhouse is free of charge to enter and exhibits such as a saber (ceremonial sword) on which the Gosan no Kiri family crest is engraved, and the newly established guidance service allow visitors to learn more about the relationship between Hawaii and Ikaho.

    Located in Asama Plateau, Tsumagoi Village, Gunma Prefecture, this elevated flower garden stretches out across the slopes of Mitsuone mountain. From mid-May to early June, approximately 150,000 rhododendron flowers bloom here. There is a free shuttle bus from Manza-Kazawaguchi Station. In addition to several types of rhododendron, a variety of plateau flora cover the vast area, such as Japanese azalea—a flower native to Gunma Prefecture and Iogoke, a type of lichen also known as Monroe's Lip. In autumn, visitors can enjoy beautiful views of the larch forest shining in the sunlight, and in winter blanketed with beautiful pure white snow.

    Melody Line is located on the way towards Roadside Station GreenFlower Stock Farm Ogo, from the Gunma Prefectural Livestock Experiment Station on National Route 353. There are a total of 10 places in Gunma Prefecture where there is a groove dug into the road which produces a melody-like sound when driving at a constant speed (at the speed limit). At this place, a melody called Tulip can be heard. It was composed by Takeshi Inoue, who lived in Maebashi City and composed many melodies and children’s songs such as Mushi no Koe and Umi.

    This wintersweet flower garden is located about 15-minutes from Matsuida-Myogi Interchange. There are 1,200 bushes and 12,000 wintersweet trees planted on the large site of 3.2 hectares. The beautiful blossoms and fragrance fill the air in season. The garden is open from late December to early February, and the best time to view the blossoms is on a fine day with snow still on the ground, the pastel yellow of the flowers looks brilliant. There is a shop in the park providing light refreshments, and locally grown vegetables and wintersweet seedlings. A wintersweet festival is held every year with entertainment and gifts of cut flowers which is popular with many tourists.

    This scenic spot is located approximately 30 minutes from the Kan’etsu Expressway Takasaki Interchange, where flowers bloom colorfully throughout the year. From a hill overlooking the city of Takasaki, flowers such as rape blossoms in the spring, sunflowers in the summer and cosmos in the autumn can be seen with the Three Mountains of Jomo in the background. During the spring, the rape blossom festival has approximately 300,000 rape blossoms, as well as nemophila, pansies, tulips and others. In the autumn, the Cosmos Festival is held, and visitors can enjoy buying local vegetables from direst sales outlets and various events such as the potato digging experience.

    This man-made lake located in Shimonyu, Tomioka City was formed by Nyu Dam. It offers beautiful natural scenery such as the reflection of Mt. Myogi in the lake's surface and the cherry blossoms on the lakeshore. It is also known for its great Japanese crucian carp and Japanese pond smelt fishing (the managed fishing area is currently closed). There is also a sunflower field next to the lake that blooms with some 110,000 sunflowers.

    This square is located near the Yubatake in Kusatsu Hot Spring, Kusatsu, Kusatsu Town. The square is designed like a terraced paddy field with wooden passageways and is a great place to relax while strolling through the hot spring district. It’s also used as the “Yubatake Marche” event space.

    Set atop the Mt. Kannon in Ishihara Town, Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture, a statue of a white robed large kannon rises to 40 meters high, and is a Registered Tangible Cultural Properties. 20 buddhas are enshrined within the statue, and a view of the city can be observed from the shoulder level within the statue. The Mt. Takasaki Kannon is also known for its cherry blossoms. Every year, at their peak, the Yoshino blossoms in full glory surrounding the huge Kannon statue.

    Selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Springs, the Hakoshima Spring flows through Higashi-Agatsuma Town, Agatsuma County, in Gunma Prefecture. This spring, gushing around the roots of an approximately 400-year-old cedar tree, preserved next to the Hakoshima Fudoson deity, spurts approximately 30,000 tons of spring water per day. The waters are used within the town for drinking, agriculture, and fish farming. The water is so pure that one can enjoy watching the fireflies from June to July on the banks lower stream, Narusawa River.
