    This café is located in Shibukawa City, Gunma Prefecture, along the stone steps of Ikaho hot spring. The modern and stylish shop is easy for women to feel comfortable in and enjoy a menu with dishes such as ginger roast Joshu Mugi pork set meals, with the pork a little on the thick side, and Joshu roast beef rice bowl, which are full of ingredients sourced from contracted farms. There are also sweets such as homemade chocolate brownies and anmitsu, as well as a drinks menu with items such as yuzu tea and a very fruity fruit cider.

    As the hotel did not offer the option of dinner, I had to find a restaurant nearby and SARAS terrace Arraiya is literally just next door. The atmosphere is cozy and food is tasty, good value for...

    This café is operated by “Shikanozoki Kiseki-no-Yu Tsuruya”. The Shimagawa River flows nearby and just down from the parking lot is the pot hole in the riverbed called “Ouketsu”, a National Natural Treasure. The café is surrounded by forest trees and has a spacious open terrace. In winter the café is a warmed by an open fire stove. The menu offers coffee, tea, herbal tea and apple juice made from locally grown apples, as well as homemade sweets and pizza toast etc.

    ここには、四万温泉の千と千尋の舞台と言われている宿へ向かう途中、名所の四万の甌穴を見るため駐車した際、休憩に入ったカフェでしたが、あまり特徴のあるスイーツもなく、女性店員には笑顔もなく休まる感じのお店ではないようです。

    This refurbished café was built around 100 years ago and is located in the city of Maebashi. The original pillars remain, and the fashionably refurbished high ceiling gives the café a very calming atmosphere. In the cold season, a wood burning stove is also set up, which lends an air of excitement to the café. The café’s moist carrot cake made with real carrots and sweet cream cheese icing is its most popular product. Its menu changes according to the season, and includes cakes made with seasonal fruits. The meals served in addition to the café menu are also substantial.

    Visitors enjoy sake at this cafe in an old sake storehouse built during the Meiji period (1868–1912) that was once owned by the Nagai Shuzo brewery. There is even a sugitama in front of the shop, a large ball of cedar twigs that often hangs from the eaves of sake breweries. The menu resembles a sake brewery's too, with steamed buns made with sake lees, blanc-manger, chocolate ganache, and more. They also have light meals made with salted koji mold and coffee prepared with water used for sake making. Their sake tasting set lets you sip and compare the fine Mizubasho and Tanigawadake brews. You'll have a great time at this brewery.

    Shinshuya is located among a row of cherry trees standing on along the Ogawa River, considered one of the 100 most beautiful rivers in Japan. This café is housed inside a remodeled shop building constructed in 1905. The shop was a part of the local community throughout the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods, and the building still retains an air of these bygone times. The café is located on the first floor, while the second floor serves as a rest space from which visitors can view the row of trees outside. Shinshuya offers soft serve ice cream made with milk provided by local dairy farmers, coffees from around the world, knickknacks, and silk goods. Tourism information is also provided here, and the staff at Shinshuya can tell you about local area highlights.

    由緒ある雄川ぜきのほとりにあります。川の流れを見ていると、とても心が癒されます。まるで武家時代にタイムスリップした気持ちになります。店内の名物は、なんといっても有名な”シュウマイ”です。生姜がきいていて、さっぱりした後味は絶品です。きっとまた食べたくなります。

    A five minute walk from Kusatsu-Onsen Bus Terminal. This “footbath café” in the Souan ryokan inn is situated in front of a “yubatake,” an area used to harvest hot spring minerals which is a famed practice in Kusatsu. Customers can enjoy soaking tired feet in hot spring waters while enjoying the café’s food and drink menu. Recently remodeled in 2012, Souan operates out of an old Japanese-style home decorated in Japanese modern style. The atmospheric wooden building creates a relaxing effect. There are coin lockers for customers to use and the café and footbath are available for use even by non-guests. Besides the footbath, there’s also counter and table seating. In addition to beverages, soft serve ice cream, and other sweets, the café also serves okkirikomi, a local soup with thick noodles.

    A cafe near the yubatake (hot water field and spring source) in Kusatsu, Kusatsu Town. The cafe serves freshly ground coffee upon ordering, as well as homemade cakes and light snacks. Cafe Gute Reise is housed within the refurbished bath house of the oldest ryokan in Kusatsu, Nisshinkan, and from the window, views of the waterfalls in the yubatake (hot water field and spring source) can be seen.

    Man kann im Cafe gut frühstücken. Es wird zwar nur Toast angeboten, aber der ist echt gut. Der Kaffee schmeckt. Aber ist relativ teuer.

    A cafe located in the Shima Onsen resort in Shima, Nakanojo Town. The cafe serves cappuccino with the onsen mark traced into the foam as well as a food menu of homemade sweets and their Kashiwaya curry made with two types of roux. They also sell Japanese goods ideal as souvenirs.

    We stopped by here after lunch while waiting to check-in at Kashiwaya Ryokan. The staff was very friendly and the cake we enjoyed was very delicious.

    The Cafe Restaurant Ashima, famous for yaki (grilled) curry, a specialty of Minakami Onsen, was established more than 25 years ago. In addition to the original yaki curry dish which has been popular since the store first opened, the weekday limited pasta lunch plate and coffee made with the delicious water of Tanigawa River are also popular. Pets accompanying guests are allowed on the terrace. It is about a ten minute on walk from JR Minakami Station.

It is about a 10 minute walk from Joshu Tomioka Station on the Joshin Dentetsu Line.
