"This Shinto shrine is sung of in the ""Ashikaga Ondo,"" a song about the local area: ""If you come to Ashikaga / Look for Orihime's red shrine / Clatter-thump-thump / Clatter-thump / Ashikaga, town of pictures / Town of machinery."" Boasting history and traditions stretching back 1,300 years, the shrine is seen as the guardian shrine of the textile town of Ashikaga.

This local culture hall contains exhibits concerning the Yokoyama family, a wealthy Meiji period merchant family. The right half of the facility was once used as a hemp wholesale store, while the left half was used as a bank, and inside visitors can see things such as a reception area restored to look as it did when it was in use. Kura storehouses built of Fukaiwa stone from Kanuma stand on either side of the facility's stone main building, which has a 7.2-meter-wide frontage and which is nine meters deep. The facility's establishment areas, residence area, storehouses, and Western-style building have been designated a Tangible Cultural Property by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. In 2018, a tourism information area, multilingual video, and multilingual informational panels were added to the facility, with visitors noting this increases ease of use and understanding for international tourists.

This memorial museum celebrates the Okada family, a family whose history dates back over 550 years and which was once one of the leading families of Tochigi City. The museum's expansive grounds sprawl across some 13,000 square meters; inside, the museum displays treasures passed down through the generations in the Okada family. Said to have moved to the area from distant Sanjo in Kyoto, in the Edo period the family is said to have provided leadership in creating the foundations of daily life and to have contributed to the building of a stable community. Later, the Tokugawa clan gave the area the title of Kauemon Shinden Village, which then became Kauemon Shinden Town (now Kauemon-cho). Visitors can pass through an imposing gate and view magnificent folding screens, bridal wear dating to the Genroku era (1688-1704), and a complete set of implements used for flower viewing parties in the mid-Edo period.

Inside this 200-year-old compound, the museum displays historical items from the city, pieces by artists connected to the area, and stone tools excavated within city limits. This mini museum is located inside the Palport plaza in front of Sano Station. Inside the tourist information center on the first floor, the museum displays models of Sano ramen served in some 30 establishments in the area. The bowls used are actual bowls from the various restaurants. Each is a realistic replica of each restaurant's vaunted Sano ramen. Informational cards next to each model present information such as the restaurant's address, business days, number of parking spaces, and noodle characteristics, meaning the museum can also be used to help you choose which restaurant to go to. Visitors rave that just looking at the models will make you hungry, and another nice thing about it is that it's free.

Most visits to Tochigi revolve around Nikko, a small city home to the spectacular, lavishly decorated Toshogu Shrine and Nikko National Park with its mountains, lakes, waterfalls, onsen, and wild monkeys. Neighboring Oku-Nikko is an extension of the fantastic scenery famous for its autumn leaves, while Tochigi’s capital, Utsunomiya, is the only place in the world where you can find oya stone beautifully exhibited in temples and the Oya History Museum.
