    This sake brewery was established in 1849 by its founder Shimazaki Hikobe. It works hard every day with a single goal of making great sake. The brewery offers tours of its sake cave, which was originally an underground tank factory built at the end of the World War II. It also offers sake-making experiences. Each program requires a reservation. Some of the brewery's popular sakes include Azumarikishi, Uroko, and Kiwamishizuku.

Established as a seasonal tableware and craft shop in 1976, the shop sells monaka wafer cakes modeled after the traditional local paper mache yellow kibune carp toys from Utsunomiya whose history stretches back to the Edo period. These cute wafer cakes are created using an original mold ordered from a famous and skilled mold maker who carved the model for it by hand using a single tool. Each set of five wafer cakes comes with one Kibunakko cake colored yellow with a pigment created after much trial and effort using cape jasmine.

Customers rave they are great for wedding after parties and other parties, as well as a stand-in for a birthday cake for people who don't like whipped cream. The adjoining Akaitori Japanese-style sweets cafe has gained much attention for its creative desserts made with the shop's Japanese confections, such as a kintsuba flour dough sweet bean cake mille-feuille, and cappuccino daifuku."

    "This longstanding Japanese confectionary shop was established in 1899. Located near Kanuma City Hall, the shop is adorned with a sign which states ""Yaki Kinton"" (Baked Sweet Buns) in Japanese and continues to make confections extolled as some of the most delicious in Kanuma. The shop's signature yaki kinton buns are made with choice, organically-grown azuki beans from Hokkaido, have been certified as a Kanuma Brand product. The buns are made with lightly sweet mashed sweet potatoes enwrapped in gyuhi soft rice cake which is then lightly baked, and they make perfect small gifts. Cool them first in a refrigerator in summer to make them even more delicious."

The shop's strawberry daifuku rice cakes are also highly regarded and consist of a deliciously tart Tochiotome strawberry wrapped in soft and chewy mochi rice cake. The shop's dorayaki pancake sandwiches, consisting of bean jam and butter sandwiched between two pancakes covered in stripes from the cooking process, make delightful little gifts.

Most visits to Tochigi revolve around Nikko, a small city home to the spectacular, lavishly decorated Toshogu Shrine and Nikko National Park with its mountains, lakes, waterfalls, onsen, and wild monkeys.
