A full spectrum of flowers bloom in this flower park, located in Tochigi Prefecture. One particularly famous specimen is the wisteria said to be over 140 years old, and designated as a Prefectural Natural Monument. Many visitors come from all over the country during peak season when Japan’s largest wisteria and white Japanese wisteria bloom and form a tunnel. In winter, you’ll find one of the largest illumination displays in Kanto, with four million light bulbs.

I think it is better to visit maybe end of April. Even though we enjoyed the garden very much but most of the flowers already bloomed and maybe some with leftover late bloomers.

It’s also possible to only visit the safari restaurant, where you can enjoy barbecued dishes, curry, rice bowls, noodles, and more.

The museum is a theater-style museum that can be called the culmination of the work of Seiji Fujishiro, an artist of light and prayer, and where an objet d'art of a cat guides visitors through the lush garden that leads from the Nagaya-mon gate. A brick chapel with beautiful stained glass windows is also located in the garden.

I was moved by his great expressiveness. This museum was better than I expected. But, the explanation board is only in Japanese.

In tanks replicating the ecology of the Nakagawa River, you can see creatures that inhabit a range of environments from the source to the river’s lower reaches. The huge tube-type tunnel aquarium featuring fish from the Amazon River like the enormous arapaima and piranha is a must see.

Most visits to Tochigi revolve around Nikko, a small city home to the spectacular, lavishly decorated Toshogu Shrine and Nikko National Park with its mountains, lakes, waterfalls, onsen, and wild monkeys. Neighboring Oku-Nikko is an extension of the fantastic scenery famous for its autumn leaves, while Tochigi’s capital, Utsunomiya, is the only place in the world where you can find oya stone beautifully exhibited in temples and the Oya History Museum.
