    Tsukuba Wanwan Land is a large-scale interactive zoo where you can pat the animals. A landmark is Mokkun, an 11-meter high wooden statue which is a dog-shaped observatory. Dogs are the main attraction, and there are about 500 dogs from 90 breeds. You can pat your favorite dog as well as experience walking with it. In addition to dogs, there is a building which houses cats only and an area which you can pat small animals so you can experience interacting with a wide range of animals. Entry with your pet dog is available. Your dog can use a dog run, and there are events in which it can participate.

    This zoo is located inside the Hitachi Kamine Park overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Popular for its elephants, giraffes, capybara beavers, and lesser pandas, this zoo nurtures around 500 creatures of 70 varieties. The Petting Square, where one can touch the smaller animals and the python and observe the animals up-close is one of the main attractions. The Elephant Cafe is also popular where one can watch the elephants while enjoying a snack.

    A nature park and zoo located next to the Saikoin Temple northeast of Mt. Tsukuba a 25-minute drive from the Tsuchiura-kita interchange. The zoo's shows, featuring monkeys, wild boar, and cats, are particularly popular. In the petting zoo area, visitors can play with rabbits and other small animals and see ponies and bears up close.
