This forest park in Ushiku City, Ibaraki Prefecture was created as part of a project to establish areas for making use of nature for local residents and was opened in 1990. Nature observers are permanently stationed in the park who provide the latest information on what's happening on its grounds. From plants to animals, visitors can come in contact with nature in the park in a variety of ways, including the park's centrally located Nature Center and its animal exhibits and activity corner, a beech (chinquapin) forest, owl forest, and Japanese hare hill. The Nature Center loans out binoculars and magnifying glasses and also holds events such as birdwatching and animal care classes for children.

    今や東京のベッドタウンと化している牛久ですが、駅から離れると自然を味わえます。おいしい空気を吸いながら散歩ができました。

Just a stone’s throw from Tokyo, Ibaraki is a coastal prefecture that has mastered juxtapositions, where old shrines meet new scientific discoveries and traditional gardens are frequented by the inventors of some of the newest technology. Head to Mito City's Kairakuen - one of Japan's Three Great Gardens - in spring to experience the cellestial blooming of fantastic cherry blossoms at the annual sakura festival.
