A long-standing shop housed in a subdued early Meiji period building located in Nishisakae Town, Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture selling traditional Japanese candles and other crafts. The shop has handmade colorful decorated candles since the time of the eighth Tokugawa shogun, Tokugawa Yoshimune. The history of Aizu decorated candles is linked to Aizu lacquerware and dates back 500 years. These precious candles are used for marriages and other special events. The shop’s candles decorated with tree peonies, camellias, wisteria, and other flower patterns are popular souvenirs. Visitors are also encouraged to participate in a candle decorating class to create a special memory of their trip.

    店の正面は全面ガラスと白い土塀で立派で目立っている建物で、会津の可愛い絵ろうそくとお線香を販売しているお店でした もし行かれたら、店内の床を見て下さい とても凝った床でした

"This long-established tea shop was established during the Tenpo period (1831-1845). Along Noguchi Hideyo Seishun Street in Aizu Wakamatsu, the town where Dr. Hideyo Noguchi is said to have spent his adolescence, tea is sold with the heart of Aizu in mind. The original green tea ""Soemon"" is a gem of a product originating from the succession of the name Kishuya Soemon, which Kishuen has inherited for generations. It is made with a mild and calm taste, inspired by the history, climate, natural features and temperament of Aizu. The tea is a unique blend of gyokuro (shaded green tea), mecha (coarse broken tea leaves) and kukicha (twig tea), which is delicious no matter who brews it and how hot the water is. Their ""Aizu ginger bancha"" with ginger and black beans and refreshingly bitter sencha green tea is also popular."

This shop selling picture candles, a traditional craft in Aizu, boasts a history of over 250 years. Located about a 10-minute drive north of Tsuruga Castle, it continues to make elegant and gorgeous picture candles. Candles in Aizu are said to have been started more than 500 years ago by Morinobu Ashina, the lord of Aizu, who encouraged the planting of lacquer trees. Picture candles, which have pictures placed on high-quality candles, were used and loved by feudal lords, shrines, temples and high society in those days. The picture candle-making experience, where visitors can paint their own candles in about one hour, is also very popular (reservation required).
