This is a Japanese castle in Otemachi, Aizuwakamatsu City. Locally it is called Tsurugajo Castle. The castle was the seat of famous feudal warlords but was damaged in the Boshin Civil War at the end of the Edo period and demolished in 1874. It was rebuilt in 1965, and in 2011 the roof tiles were reverted to the original red resembling the time of the end of Tokugawa Shogunate. It is the only castle in Japan where visitors can see the elegant red tiled keep. In addition, the castle tower also acts as a museum focusing on the Boshin War, exhibiting helmets, weapons, materials, etc. of successive castle owners. Around the castle tower is also a cherry blossom viewing area and many visitors come to visit in the spring.

No English explanation. Dont bother going if you are into history. Castle grounds are well cared for. View from top is nice

Sazaedo is a hexagonal, three-storied hall built in 1796. It is located on Mt. Iimori, Aizuwakamatsu City, famous for Byakkotai (a group of young samurai called the white tiger corps). It is also called “Sazae-do” because it resembles the shape of a turban shell. It has a mysterious corridor and when you ascend the unique double spiral stairwell before you know it, you are descending again. Thirty-three Saigoku Kannon Statues are placed on the slope and the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage to 33 Buddhist temples is said to be completed on reaching the top. It was designated as an Important Cultural Property of the country in 1996.

A Buddhist temple which was Constructed in 1796 entirely from wood, Sazaedo has a double-helix structure, meaning that those who enter Sazaedo will leave the temple without encountering anybody...

"This famous cherry tree is considered one of the three most beautiful in Japan. On October 12th, 1922, it was the first cherry tree in the country to be designated a National Natural Monument. 13.5 meters tall and 11.3 meters in root circumference, the huge red weeping cherry tree of Edo-higan cherry group is said to be over 1,000 years old. The tree's name literally translates as ""Three Spring Waterfall Cherry,"" a name it was given because the countless blossoms the tree blooms with in spring, sprouting from branches sprawling in all directions, look like a waterfall."

The splendor of the giant ancient tree is truly mind-boggling. It is a wonderful sight and, without a doubt, it is the loveliest tree in the country - often mentioned as the number one tree. In...

20 minutes by car from the Iwaki-Yumoto Interchange. A tourism and shopping facility located in Iwaki Onahama Minato Oasis. Bustling with tourists, the facility hosts a seafood market selling fresh delicacies just brought in from Onahama Port, restaurants, souvenir shops, and more under the catchphrase, “everything good in Iwaki.” The seafood rice bowl and handmade soba noodle set has remained a popular dish for visitors to enjoy here since it opened 20 years ago. The Iwaki Day Cruise, a sightseeing ship which makes short trips around the bay, is also a popular activity for visitors to enjoy.

This limestone cave was carved out over 80,000,000 years. The 600 meter length is filled with limestone stalactites and stalagmites, creating an enchanting scene. The largest attraction is the 30 meter high grotto, the Takine Palace, filled with limestone formations like the Crystal Curtain, grotto Coral, and more.

Cost is 1200Yen per adult - average size limestone cave but I have been to better ones in Japan and other countries. Ryusendo and Utsonomiya are way bigger and better. Considering the distance...

A facility located in the almost exact center of Ouchi-juku a 15 minute drive by car from Yunokami-Onsen Station which contains presents the lifestyle lived in the area during Japan’s era of post station towns. Ouchi-juku’s honjin, or troop headquarters, was one of the strongholds along the Shimotsuke Kaido highway built in the early Edo period, and was used by the lords of Aizu Domain when travelling to and from the capital of Edo. This honjin was remodeled into the Ouchi-Juku Pavilion. The hall provides information on areas as such as the lord’s exclusive entranceway, jodan-no-ma raised floor room, bath, and thatched roof, as well as exhibits presenting the tools and other items people once used here as part of everyday life. In addition, firewood is continually lighting in the building’s traditional sunken hearth year-round as part of measures necessary to keep the thatch roof in good working order.

"A historical building in Higashitakinomachi, Iizaka-machi, Fukushima City. It's a restoration of the former Horikiri family residence, a village headman who made substantial contributions to the local economy. The grounds include valuable examples of old architecture including the Jukkenkura, a warehouse built in 1775 and the oldest such in the prefecture, as well as a newly constructed building that houses an exhibition room, tourist information, and event space. There's also a foot and hand bath on site and you can enjoy looking over the garden while warming yourself in the free flowing natural hot spring constantly replenished ""kakenagashi"" style."

This shrine is said to be the origin of the “Aizu” location name. It began when people worshipped Izanagi-no-mikoto and Izanami-no-mikoto at Mt. Mikaguratake. Now it elicits adoration from worshippers inside and outside the prefecture looking for better fortune, longevity, better relationships, and safe commutes. The precincts feature the “Usuzumi Zakura”: a holy tree that is mostly white with some light charcoal color, which gradually turns reddish and releases a unique aroma. The Ayame Festival held in the outer Ayame Garden begins in mid-June and exhibits 100,000 irises, attracting many visitors.
