  • Senshu Park

    Akita Pref. Akitashi Senshukouen
    This park in Akita City, Akita Prefecture was established to maintain the inner and outer citadel of Kubota Castle. It was designed by landscape architect Yasuhei Nagaoka. The remains of the Omonogashira-gobansho (a guard post where the samurai on guard duty and in charge of opening and closing the gates were stationed) and the restored Osumiyagura turret and front gate offer vestiges of the past, and these are popular as photo spots. At a shop in the outer citadel one can try delicious dumpling called Senshu Dango. The lush garden is famous for its cherry blossoms and azaleas and is consequently a popular spot for blossom viewing during the cherry blossom festival and azalea festival each spring.

  • Kimimachi-zaka Prefectural Nature Park

    This park is located in Kotsunagi, Futatsui-machi, Noshiro City. The name Kimimachi-zaka was bestowed on the area by Emperor Meiji when he visited it during an imperial tour of the Tohoku region. There is an anecdote about the emperor receiving a letter sent by the empress out of concern about his long journey while he stayed in the area. The park features a stone monument commemorates the rest the Emperor took in the area, and an additional monument is inscribed with the waka poem included in the empress' letter. The park also features the Koibumi Shrine, a mailbox for love letters, a gallery, a cafe, and more. Visitors can enjoy scenery created by Byobu Rock and the area's seasonal nature, such as cherry blossoms in the spring.

    A park located along Prefectural Route 290 in Kamibayashi, Konoura, Nikaho City. The cherry trees planted along the almost one kilometer loop around Kannon Lagoon are some of the earliest blooming in the prefecture and along with the beautiful scenery of the blossoms and Mt. Chokai during blooming season they hold special cherry blossom viewing parties with evening illumination events.

    A park in the Sanganzeki area of Kanezawa-nakano, Yokote City. This historical park is located in the Nishinuma region which served as the stage for the Gosannen War during the later part of the Heian Period. There are statues of the generals who served in the war and a relief showing battle scenes as well as beautiful scenery to admire including Nishinuma marsh and the linked arch bridges crossing over it.

    "A park located in Inamisawa, Hamada, Akita City. Highlights include a plum grove planted with some 370 plum trees, a flowering tree grove primarily occupied by cherry trees, a fruiting tree grove, Japanese chestnut grove, and ""Tanjo no Mori"" forest where you can plant a tree to commemorate the birth of a child. Facilities include nature trails, tennis courts, a grass field surrounded by forest, and more."

    A park in Azuma Iwagamizawa, Odate City. 20 varieties of cherry trees are planted around the Iwagamizawa Reservoir, and there are walking paths and cherry-blossom viewing plazas where you can enjoy the scenery of the reservoir and cherry blossoms. In the fall you can enjoy the changing autumn colors as well as late fall blooming cherry blossoms.

    A quasi-national park covering nearly a third of Oga City's total area. Most of the areas to enjoy nature in the area are included in the park area including various mountains such as Mt. Kanpu, Oga-Sanzan (Mt. Shin-zan, Mt. Hon-zan and Mt. Kenashi-yama), Unosaki Beach which was chosen as one of Japan's top 100 coastlines, and the natural growing area of the camellia bush which is the northernmost place it grows and which has been designated a natural memorial.

    This park is located in Shiroyama-machi, Yokote City. It maintains the remains of Yokote Castle, which was destroyed during the Boshin War fought around the end of the Tokugawa shogunate and the beginning of the Meiji period (1868 to 1869). At the Honmaru ruins is Akita Shrine, and at the Ninomaru ruins there is a three-layer castle tower observation deck which also serves as a local museum, enabling you to enjoy views of the Yokote Basin.

    角館の武家屋敷群の北側にある、城址公園です。山の頂上部分がかつての主郭になっています。頂上付近や旧二ノ丸付近からは角館の街が一望できます。天候が良ければ是非訪問すべきです。

    こども向けの遊具だけかと思いきや、グランドゴルフができるようになっていた。低価格で全コース回るとしっかり２－３時間ほど遊べて良かった。運動不足になりがちな田舎の帰省ではこういう場所が大事です。

    空港の近くに隣接している公園なのですが、空港内から行くことはできずに一度出ていくことになります。「だだっ広いな」という感じの公園でセンターハウスや遊具がありましたが見るべきものはあまりありませんでした。
