    Located near Lake Kamafusa, this is Tohoku’s most extensive public park administered by the national government. It is becoming a popular sightseeing spot since it is close to sightseeing areas such as Akiu Onsen. Visitors can experience Tohoku’s nature and culture, and it is worth seeing the flowers that bloom across the four seasons. Tulips in the spring, and the fields of cosmos flowers that bloom from summer to autumn fill the park with color.

    I visited this park at the end of April when the flowers were at their full bloom. the view is really exceptional and amazing, I think this park deserves to be considered as one of the marvels of...

  • Hiyoriyama Park

    This is a park atop Hiyoriyama hill that is famous for offering a view of all of Ishinomaki. Long ago it was said to have been frequented by the haiku poet Matsuo Basho. On a clear day one can see the Oshika Peninsula and the islands of Matsushima across the water. Known as a place to see cherry blossoms, the Hiyoriyama Cherry Blossom Festival is held every year in April, and is lit up at night for spectacular scenery.

    Hanatopia Iwanuma is a 4.8-hectare flower-themed area of green space that was developed to help contribute to local development and the revitalization of the local economy. This large park has flower-beds and flower gardens with seasonal flowers, lawns on which children can play happily on the grass, leisure facilities, and direct sales outlets. A farmers’ market is held every Saturday and Sunday, and the “Hanatopia Flower Festival” is held each year from mid-May through into mid-June when the different flowers in the park are coming into bloom. A wide variety of other events are held throughout the year.

    A 30 minute drive from the Taiwa and Furukawa interchanges on the Tohoku Expressway. This park, situated on a hill on National Route 457, is a renowned destination for viewing flowers. The park's flowers and landscaping are meticulously maintained, and visitors can enjoy the sight of cherry blossoms in April, Chinese peonies in early June, bigleaf hydrangeas in July, and crape myrtle from September to mid-October. The park's 10 thousand red and white Chinese peonies are particularly stunning in early summer, and each year while the flowers are in bloom the park holds a Chinese peony festival. There's also a popular park golf course which makes use of the site's natural terrain.

    色麻町には河童の伝説があるようで、町内のあちこちで河童の像が飾られていました。ここ愛宕山農業公園も河童公園で噴水には親子連れ風の河童像が飾られていました。また直売所もあったのですが、季節限定、曜日限定の限定ショップでした。売られている野菜は限定品ではなく、一般的な野菜です。

    This park is a popular cherry blossom viewing spot, with over 260 cherry trees on the grounds, and the observatory offers a wonderful view over Matsushima Bay. Legend says that after Saigyohoshi was on his international pilgrimage, an argument he had with a young boy under a pine tree here made him give up on visiting Matsushima.

    This is a national park which was established in May 2013 in order to contribute to the reconstruction of the Sanriku region which was damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake, and preserves the “Miracle Lone Pine Tree” and other remnants of the disaster. Visitors can see nature and geographical features unique to the coastal areas such as a rare sea shore (the Tanesashi Coast) where the “sand squeaks”, colonies of rugose rose and sweat pea etc., and the scenic spot of Ohakozaki Senjojiki representing Kamaishi City. There are some visitor centers and museums in the area, exhibiting materials related to nature, ecosystems and the disaster in each area, providing tourist information and multilingual brochures.

    A leisure spot and symbol of the city, this park is situated on the western side of Tomiya City. The park has an 800 meter long outdoor obstacle course whose 17 obstacles whose names are derived from local locations. The Kamekamekan park building can be used as a place to take a break; when you're inside, look up and you'll see the roof is in the shape of a hexagon. Climb the 138 steps of the park's observatory and you can enjoy a panoramic, 360 degree view of the area from 138 meters above sea level. A place filled with things for families with children to have fun together, other facilities include a campground and children's sledding slope in winter.

    This park is located on the Michinoku Fairy Tale Road in Uwano, Shichikashuku Town, Katta County. Its expansive grounds are situated on the shore of Lake Shichikashuku, the lake formed by Shichikashuku Dam. It features an athletic field, an athletic play zone, a boat pool, a woodworking center, an outdoor stage, and other facilities. Visitors to the park, which possesses a rich forest environment, can enjoy activities such as bird watching and insect collection as well as seasonal scenery including spring cherry blossoms and fall foliage.

    This park is located along Prefectural Route 57, in Tairabayashi Ohira Village, Kurokawa District. The forest has around 520 kinds of plants, mainly those that appear in the Manyoshu poems. There is a promenade in the park with a monument of the Manyoshu poems, where visitors can feel the culture and history while surrounded by nature. There is also a Manyo Create Park, which has an athletic area and a day campsite, as well as an art museum and a restaurant.

    A park in FurukawakawakumaChojahara, Osaki City. It was established in conjunction with the Miyazawa Site, a national historic site. The park features a historical town with recreations of ancient dwellings as well as a playground with a 25-meter long roller slide and an open area with attached cooking space that can be used for BBQs or parties (advance request required). Also, from the top of the slide you get a great view over nearby Kejonuma which is a home to wild migratory birds.

    Zaimokuiwa Park is a park located downstream from Shichikashuku Dam that takes as its theme both water and the valley’s rock formations. The “Obara no Zaimokuiwa” rock formations (with a “grain” resembling that of wood), which have been designated as a National Natural Monument, are located on the opposite bank of the Shiroishi River. Every year in late April, large numbers of carp streamer can be seen swimming upstream, which makes for a very impressive spectacle. Children enjoy playing in the stone fountain in the Park. There is also a fishing pond, a farm restaurant, and a store selling local farm products. Zaimokuiwa is a great place to relax and unwind.

    This is a campsite located inside the Naganuma Futopia Park, with its distinctive Dutch-style windmill named “Shiratori” (“Swan”). Naganuma Futopia Park also has a tulip garden and a large roller slide, and is a great outdoor leisure destination.
