    This community center is located approximately a 40-minute drivefrom Kunohe Interchange on the Hachinohe Expressway, via National Route 340. The hands-on learning facility, Furusato no Monozukuri, has a huge variety of experience workshops where visitors can learn about the bounty of Hiraniwa Highland's rich nature. Visitors can enjoy a number of activities, such as the plant and wild grape dyeing experience, where visitors can use refreshing colors to dye a handkerchief, or the October-limited wild grape harvesting experience. A reservation is required. There are also experience workshops that do not need a reservation, such as the flower pressing experience. At the restaurant in the hotel, visitors can enjoy a glass of wine with dishes which are made locally for local consumption, such as Kuzumakikogen homemade soba.

    This is located in Megashinden, Ichinohe Town in Ninohe County. In addition to being able to observe the starry night sky and sunspots through a 500-millimeter diameter telescope, visitors can also enjoy the adjacent planetarium. It is open on Fridays, weekends, and holidays between early May and mid-October.

    This wisteria tree is located in Kozuya, Ichinohe Town, Ninohe County. An old tree that is said to be hundreds of years old, it has been designated as a national natural monument. The best time to see it is from mid to late May, and it is also lit up at night.

    This mountain, 862 meters, lies across the boundaries between Ninohe City, KarumaiTown and Kunohe Village, and it is part of Oritsume-Basenkyo Prefectural Nature Park. Its lush natural setting includes old-growth beech forests. Walking trails have been laid out in the park, and from the observation point at the summit, tourists can see a panorama of the surrounding mountains, the ocean, and the nighttime cityscape of Hachinohe.

    This cultural facility complex is located in Niwatari, Ishikiridokoro, Ninohe City. In addition to a 132-seat hall, it has meeting rooms, culture rooms and Japanese-style rooms. In addition, it adjoins the “Shigeo Fukuda Design Museum” exhibiting works by the graphic designer Shigeo Fukuda, and the “Tanakadate Aikitsu Memorial Science Museum” honoring the Iwate-born physicist Prof. Tanakadate Aikitsu.

    This gorge is a scenic area along the Mabechikawa River in Ishikiridokoro, Ninohe City. Part of the gorge lies within Oritsume-Basenkyo Prefectural Nature Park. Ogami (male god) Rock and Megami (goddess) Rock are the largest of the so-called “married couple rocks” in Japan. Along with Mt. Torigoe on the opposite bank, they have been designated as Spots of Scenic Beauty. Tourists can admire the massive scenery of the gorge, created by the seasonal changes of foliage and the huge rocks from an observation point that has been set up for that purpose.
  • Kobaien (Plum Garden)

    This famous spot to see plum trees is located in the Kagitori, Fukuoka, Ninohe City. A 400-year-old plum tree has been planted on the grounds, along with the garden ruins of Masazane Kunohe, Nanbu's vassal. The six-petal plum blossom blooms from mid-April every year on a tree five meters high and divided into three trunks from the root.

    This garden is located in 2-Chiwari, Matsuoyoriki, Hachimantai City. Many kinds of wetland plants grow around the marsh, and since the nearby Akanuma Marsh is tinted by the ferric oxide in its waters, it is also called Goshiki (“five color”) Marsh. It is known as a lake that never freezes, even at -30°C. A trail that can be walked in 90 minutes has been laid out along the HachimantaiAspite Line Road.

    This marsh is located along the Hachimantai Aspite Line Road in Hosono, Hachimantai City. The marsh was created when volcanic activity blocked a river. Day lilies, marsh orchids, and other high-altitude plants grow here. Visitors can go trekking on the paths that have been laid out, and to refresh themselves, they can go to nearby the water called Kuma-no-Izumi (Bear’s spring water).

  • Appi Kogen Beech Secondary Forest

    This beech forest is located in Appikogen, Hachimantai City. After being cut down for materials in the early Showa period (1925-1989), it is called a secondary forest because it regenerated over 80 years. There are trekking courses that allow you to stroll through the forest, and it has been selected as one of the top 100 Forested Valleys in Japan.

    This miso brewing facility is located along National Route 282 in Terashida, Hachimantai City. It holds homemade miso workshops where you can experience making miso using high-quality domestic soybeans under the guidance of professionals (reservation required). You can take home about four kilograms of miso that you have prepared yourself, and you can also use the on-site shop and restaurant.
  • Matsukawa Geothermal Museum (PR facility of Matsukawa Geothermal Power Plant)

    This exhibition facility is located in Matsuoyoriki, Hachimantai City. It is attached to the Matsukawa Geothermal Power Plant, Japan's first commercial geothermal power plant, and displays images and panels that explain the mechanisms of geothermal power generation. The huge power plant cooling tower that can be seen from on-site is also impressive.

    This exhibition facility inside the forest park “Iwate Prefectural Forest” is located in Matsuoyoriki, Hachimantai City. It has exhibits related to forest trees, the relationship between forests and people, and birds that live in the forest. You can also interact directly with trees through playground equipment made with wood from the prefecture, a creative corner where you can experience making handicrafts, and various wooden toys. There is an observation room on the second floor of the facility that can also be used as a rest space.

    This strawberry farm is located in Obuke, Hachimantai City. Strawberry picking is held from late December to around June. In addition, they sell flower seedlings directly and also homemade miso and jam, and hold container garden workshops. You can experience strawberry picking at a reduced price during the Saikaen Festival held in early June.
  • Hachimantai Matsuo Mine Museum

    This museum is located in Kashiwadai2-Chome, Hachimantai City. It stores and exhibits historical materials related to the Matsuo Mine. The Matsuo Mine developed from the Meiji period (1868-1912) to around 1970 as the sulfur mine with the highest output in Asia, but also became famous for large-scale mining pollution.
  • Hachiman Numa Lake

    This is Japan’s only shield volcano crater lake, near the top of Mt. Hachimantai. Surrounded by virgin fir forest and wetlands, this lake is about 1.5 kilometers around. There is a walking path, which takes about one hour, that offers a wonderful view of alpine plants such as Japanese daylilies, white skunk cabbage. We highly recommend the view of Hachiman Numa Lake from the peak of the mountain.

    Fudo Falls, 15 meters high, is deep inside the precincts of Sakuramatsu-jinja Shrine in the city of Hachimantai, Iwate Prefecture. It is a famous spiritual power spot and contains such landmarks as the Marriage Tree. Fudo Falls has been selected as One of Japan's Best 100 Waterfalls and One of Iwate's 20 Most Famous Water Attractions. Many visitors and worshipers come to this shrine to admire its scenery in all four seasons.
