    Iwate Hachimantai-shi Matsukawa Onsen
This hot spring district, situated along Matsukawa Gorge in Towada-Hachimantai National Park, was discovered some 250 years ago. Also used as a base by those looking to climb Mt. Ubakura and Mt. Mitsuishi, the area's hot spring waters soothe away the fatigue of a long day's climbing. The area's three inns each have their own personality. The Matsukawaso is a quiet inn where you can bathe in waters exclusively from a source spring while enjoying scenic, natural beauty and being soothed by cheery forest and the murmur of a river. The Shofuso is the oldest of the three and is famed for its baths, which are constantly replenished kakenagashi style from a milky blue-green source spring.
