    Anbe is a well established “Genghis Khan”, or Mongolian mutton barbecue restaurant founded in 1947. Widely loved in Tono City, it is said that this restaurant was the original Genghis Khan restaurant which made the dish it is today. Anbe is also known as the birthplace of the Genghis Khan Bucket, characteristic of Tono Genghis Khan. The tin bucket with holes in it uses solid fuel to heat the barbecue grill placed on top.

    友達に連れられてランチに訪問。 新鮮なマトンを甘辛い秘伝のタレで食べます。 人気店で、満席でした。 肉厚でかみごたえのある赤み肉で、気になるようなクセは全くありませんでした。

    Kogensya is a store located on a site extending from JR Morioka Station to the Kitakami River that specializes in traditional handicraft products such as Nambu ironware and Urushi lacquerware. The items on sale are not limited to Iwate Prefecture’s own specialty products; they also include handicraft products from all over Japan, including Okinawan glassware, Shusaigama-ware ceramics from Shimane Prefecture, etc. Kogensya’s founder, Oikawa Shiro, was a classmate of Miyazawa Kenji, the writer of children’s stories who is one of Iwate Prefecture’s most famous authors, and was involved in the publication of “The Restaurant of Many Orders,” a collection of Miyazawa’s children’s stories. Kogensya’s Majieru-kan building and Kahi-kan café both have many items relating to Miyazawa Kenji on display, making Kogensya a popular place for Miyazawa Kenji enthusiasts to visit.

    いーはとーぶアベニュー材木町にある宮沢賢治との係わりの深い場所です。賢治が童話集「注文の多い料理店」を出版し、当時はほとんど売れなかった時代をともにした出版社。店の奥、中庭に、注文の多い料理店 出版の地の碑や烏の北斗七星の石柱、原稿などの展示館があり、賢治との係わりの深さが感じられる場所です。 訪ねた際は休館中でしたが、喫茶室もあるので、通りの散策の際、立ち寄って楽しんでください。

    Iwate Ninohe-shi Ishikiridokoro Moriai 68
    This Ninohe region wide sightseeing and local products center adjoins Ninohe Station on the Tohoku Shinkansen line. Remodeled and reopened in April 2018, the local products center on the first floor now carries an even more extensive selection of specialty products from 19 cities, towns, and villages in Aomori, Akita, and Iwate. In the restaurant on the second floor, you can enjoy dishes made with ingredients from Ninohe. In addition, coworking spaces and a pergola deck have been added to the third floor, making this a facility with a full array of spaces for everyone from families with children to businesspeople.

    なにゃーとは、二戸駅の西口に隣接しているビルで、駅の改札口とつながっている3Fに観光案内所があり、1Fはなにゃーと物産センターになっています。なにゃーと物産センターは広々としていて、二戸だけでなく、岩手県北・青森県南・秋田県東19市町村の特産品、名産品を販売していました。二戸駅に停車する新幹線は少ないので、新幹線の待ち時間をつぶすのに丁度よかったです。

    This glass structure, located to the west of JR Morioka Station, aims to be a base for the use of all the citizens of Iwate Prefecture. It houses public facilities such as the prefectural library and has a multi-purpose hall with a maximum capacity of 507 people. It also houses the Iwate Prefectural University campus where courses, including those for lifelong learning, are held mostly for local residents. Another of its features is that it is a complete universal design. There is tactile paving and audio guidance on each floor.

    盛岡駅から、けっこう近くにある公共文化施設です。図書館などが入っていて、市の中では中心的な役割を果たしているのだと思います。

    Located in a residential district along Nakatsugawa River, Gozaku is a miscellany shop for everyday bamboo goods. The flat-roofed Japanese building is designated a preserved building in Morioka City and was used in the filming of NHK’s serial TV drama “Dondo hare.” Built from late Edo Period to Meiji Period, the building was a merchant house dealing in straw products and wicks for lanterns. Now, it sells traditional straw sandals, colanders, and baskets, all which exude handmade warmth.

    An old bread shop established in 1948 in Nagata Town, Morioka City. The founder originally only developed coffee bread with the mindset of “filling the bellies of students at a low price.” The coffee bread comes in a wide variety of styles, from sweets like “red bean jam & butter”, to sides like ham and egg sandwiches, and the “Original Veggie Sandwich” —a vegetable sandwich with toppings like ground meat cutlets available. With such abundant variation, this shop has become synonymous with Morioka soul food.

    朝ごはんに家族で訪問。 8時過ぎで3組ほどの待ち。地元の皆様にも人気なのだろう。ヒトの出入りが激しかった。 朝ごはんには甘いものが食べたかったのでキャラメルをトライ。 パンがけっこう大きいので食べ終えるのに厳しいぐらいの甘さだったが、coffeeとは相性は抜群。 エビカツも一口トライしたが、これも美味! 朝ごはんかランチに再訪したい!

The observation deck on the top floor offers a sweeping view of Morioka and can be used as an exhibition hall for paintings and handicrafts. The building's mall area is occupied by a drug store; clinics; and restaurants serving Japanese, Western food, a cafe buffet, and even establishments which can be used for parties. The atrium in the building contains a recreation of the front facade for the former Japan National Railways Morioka Factory.

    A long-standing Japanese confectionery shop that has been around for over 100 years since the Meiji period. They sell a variety of Japanese sweets with a focus on showy high-grade Japanese fresh confections that reflect the seasons. Their Gomasuri-dango are a local favorite with velvety black sesame syrup in nicely textured mochi rice balls. Another local favorite is Tamura-no-Ume, featuring bean paste mixed with ume plum in gyuhi mochi wrapped in green shiso leaves. A sweet with a history, it was created on the orders of Tamura Clan, the feudal lord of Ichinoseki Domain since he hoped for some Ichinose specialty.

    ごますり団子で名高い和菓子屋です。それ以外の和菓子もおいしく、大福などのもち料理は本店にはイートインもあります。

    "A Japanese sweet shop founded in 1868. It is designed like a traditional storehouse, and you can distinguish it by its large wooden sign. The specialty is white hard candies called ""Akegarasu"" made with walnuts and sesame. The sweet got its name from the shape of the walnuts that resemble crows (karasu) when cut in half. In addition to this, they also have candies made with lots of wild grape, candies made with concentrated sugar, and a special baumkuchen cake made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the publication of The Legends of Tono."
