The Stove Train is a Tsugaru Railway train that runs from Tsugaru-Goshogawara Station to Tsugaru-Nakasato Station. It is equipped with coal-burning stoves in the carriages so passengers can keep warm while looking out at the passing picturesque winter scenery. Three round trips run every day from December through to the end of March (two round trips on weekdays in December only). The train has been running since the railway company first operated in 1930 and the current carriages are the fourth such carriages in operation.

Centuries-old stories of samurai at Kakunodate and the remains of millennia-old archaeological sites including the likes of Isedotai invite history buffs to delve into Aomori’s fascinating history. As the most northern prefecture on the Japanese mainland, Aomori enjoys a cooler climate, which makes it a welcome escape from the southern cities for combining castles, art galleries, and summer festivals with the great outdoors.
