    The Kanemori Warehouses in Hakodate are a complex of warehouses now used for general purposes. There are shops, the Hakodate Beer Hall and more in the Kanemori Youbutsukan and Hakodate Street Plaza, and BAY Hakodate has cafes and a chapel. The fourth area is Kanemori Hall, which hosts concerts and other events. The warehouses are lit up at night for a totally different atmosphere from the daytime.

    Hakodate City Seikan Ferry Memorial Ship “Mashu-maru” is where the Mashu-maru is preserved and open to the public in the actual boarding point where it operated until the last day of the Aomori-Hakodate ferry in 1988. In addition to the being able to visit the steering room and the communications room in contemporary state, there are exhibits of actual parts and models in the refurbished front green room, and you can learn about the history and operation of the Aomori-Hakodate ferry through video and audio. This museum is located four minutes’ walk from JR Hakodate Station.

    This attraction is closed! Like almost everything in Hakodate and Hokkaido. Government doesnt have to wonder why no tourists are coming. If you close all tourist sites what should we do?? Sad...

    This park located about 40 minutes by bus from Hakodate Station in Hakodate City, Hokkaido Prefecture is about a one-minute walk from the Kosetsuen bus stop. There is also a golf course, which was developed surrounding the traditional scenic gardens of Kosetsuen, built by Minejiro Iwafune in the middle of the Meiji period (1868-1912). They are the only gardens in Hokkaido that are a nationally-designated Cultural Property, and the Yoshino cherry blossoms in the spring along with the scenic fall colors win the hearts of those who visit. There are many other highlights such as a brick greenhouse and a garden house made in the shoin style of traditional Japanese architecture.

    Goryokaku is a star-shaped fortification that was the stage for the Battle of Hakodate, which was the final battle in the Boshin War. It was Japan’s first Western-style fortification, and it has been designated as a Special Historical Site. From December, illuminations in the moat are lit up, and you can enjoy fantastic views from Goryokaku Tower at the entrance. By the end of April, the Yoshino cherry blossoms in the park are in full bloom, and it is a cherry blossom viewing spot visited by many people.

The CENTER displays large numbers of artifacts excavated from Jomon era archeological sites in Hakodate, particularly from the Minamikayabe Jomon sites. A Chuku Dogu (Hollow Clay Figure) which was Hokkaido’s first designated National Treasure is on permanent display.     This museum is located near the Goryokaku Tower, a three-minute walk from the Goryoukaku Koen Iriguchi bus stop, and about seven minutes on foot from the tram stop Goryoukaku Koen-mae and is combined with the Hakodate Performing Arts Center. The exhibition focuses on modern works born in South Hokkaido and a collection of the calligrapher Kaneko Otei can be seen in the Otei Memorial room. Themed special exhibitions and lectures are also held. A family time is set up on Sunday mornings where families with children can casually visit and use discounts for special exhibitions. Original goods are also sold at the museum shop.

    A gallery which moved to its current location in 2014 selling crafts from the city of Hakodate in Hokkaido. The gallery building, built in 1935, carries an atmosphere which speaks of Hakodate's history and growth. In addition to conducting exhibitions of ceramics and dyed goods created by Hokkaido and other artists, the facility holds a variety of classes on crafts such as ceramics, tsumugiori weaving, flower pressing, and calligraphy. Depending on the day, rakugo comedic storytelling and other traditional performing arts as well as many other events are held here.

    Very nice collection of handmade textiles, crafts, jewelry, carvings, clothing, pottery. Very carefully curated by the owner. A must if you care about beautiful handmade traditional objects.

    From the Edo period to the Showa period this was the center of government that supported Hakodate with buildings such as the Hakodate magistrate’s office and the Hakodate branch of the Kaitakushi (Hokkaido Development Commission). Inside the park are four statues of the “Shitenno” (four leaders that contributed to Hakodate’s formation) and the monument details their achievements. Currently the park is used as a venue for charity events and flea markets, and in August the World Music and Dance Festival is held here. In the early summer the park is loved by Hakodate’s city dwellers for its roses that bloom profusely.

    This building was built in 1911 to serve as the Hakodate Post Office. This archetypal red brick structure that has survived through war and fire now plays a role in telling the story of Hakodate’s history. The inside of the building has become a shopping mall, and in addition to shops carrying Hokkaido’s folk art and glassware there is also a workshop in which visitors can try sandblasting and crafting music boxes, making this a great place to search for souvenirs. It is about a 15-minute walk or a five-minute drive by car from Hakodate Station.

    This shop within Hakodate Sumiyoshi fishing harbor, is about a ten-minute walk from Aoyagi-cho tram stop, and offers a squid fishing experience. There is also a mania fishing plan for fishing fans where you can charter a boat for all kinds of fishing. Be aware that the fish caught depends on the season. The famous squid fishing experience plan is offered from July to the end of October and from April to the end of October. The fishing plan for women is a tourist-friendly plan which is also available for men to join. The boats sail four times, at 6 a.m., 9 a.m., 12 p.m., and 3 p.m., and two to seven people can join one sail. The 6 a.m. sail is recommended, as you are most likely to succeed in catching something. The fishing trip lasts about two hours and you can enjoy information provided by the captain.
