This Mongolian-style barbeque in Susukino, Sapporo was founded 60 years ago. It is an interestingly built restaurant with a large almost 15 meters square horseshoe counter with the kitchen in the center. When you sit down you will have a charcoal fire with pot right in front of you where they will prepare a dish of mutton along with other meats and vegetables. This is how Daruma works. They also offer an iconic side menu with their special kimchi and chanja (spicy cod).

I was puzzled by the dish name Jingisukan [Genghis Khan] as I am pretty sure the great Khan had nothing to do with Hokkaido, and I smelt a hype here. I did some research afterward, and indeed...

This historic ramen shop was founded in 1964. The three basic ramens, miso, shoyu and shio flavors have evolved over time, while preserving the basics of ramen making techniques unaltered since its establishment. The most popular miso ramen is a stock reduced down with pork bones, shellfish, and vegetables. This rich flavored broth is combined with the Hokkaido only thick chewy noodles. Probably born of necessity in this cold climate, this ramen warms the body to the core.

The broth is impressive. Rich and complex. Worth waiting for. We got there a half hour after it opened and there was a 15 minute wait. You order and pay at a machine before you enter. Very...

A jingisukan lamb barbecue restaurant. The restaurant's raw lamb jingisukan, made with tender Australian lamb shoulder roast meat, which lacks the distinctive odor many people dislike in their lamb, goes great with Fukuroutei's special homemade secret sauce crafted with 16 herbs and spices. This comes with a plate of flavorful vegetables, and Fukuroutei is popular with women as well. Some of the menu other menu choices include tasty lamb tongue, smaller than beef tongue and possessing an excellent texture; and sausages made with lamb and Siberian onion (Alpine leek).

Local Gengis Khan quality lamb a smaller restaurant with a really good local vibe close to Nakajima Koen subway .

This long-standing soup curry restaurant has moved to the heart of the Susukino entertainment district from its original location on the Sapporo Streetcar line in Minami 1 jyo. Located a three-minute walk from Susukino station, here customers can enjoy exquisite soup curry selected to appear in the Michelin Guide Hokkaido 2017. The restaurant offers four broth varieties - yellow, the establishment's original soup curry broth; black, a tonkotsu-based broth; the soy milk-based white; and the tomato-based red. Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku Minami 3-jo nishi 7-1 Tanukikoji 7
"This shop took off as a ""one coin"" ramen shop in Sapporo. They offer two reasonably priced styles, salt-broth and soy sauce broth, as they have always done. The thick pork bone based broth is lighter than it looks, and guests often drink it dry. They top their bowls with boiled egg, char siu pork, and iwanori seaweed, and sell it all for 500 yen. Their big standard is the akadama topping, which are spicy chicken meatballs. They recommend eating the first one as-is, then crumbling the second one and mixing it in to see how the taste changes."

Smaller place, which means theres sometimes a queue, but its usually pretty good! Recommendation is Miso-ramen which is nice and rich almost creamy in its nuttiness.

  • Wine Kitchen Gekko

    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku Minami 3-jo nishi 7 (Tanukikoji 7-chome Produce store 2F)
This Spanish-style bar has high, airy ceilings lit by chandeliers and flickering candles for a grown up atmosphere. The indirect lighting and relaxed atmosphere make this a great place to enjoy authentic Spanish cuisine and perfectly paired wines. The shop was built to resemble a Mediterranean shop from the curtains to the bar counter, and it's great for couples, groups, or even on your own. They offer paella, tapas, Ajillo and other Spanish standards, and you can also order traditional kushiyaki skewers, all of which you can pair with their plentiful wine menu.

This ramen shop is about a five-minute walk from Susukino Station, and is marked by its deep noren curtain. They offer two variations on chicken-stock soup base. Their most popular ramen is the Kogashi Shoyu, a clean, light soy-sauce based broth made with special lard-braised garlic soy sauce. The rich aroma is a real appetite stirrer. They use Kyoto's Saikyo Miso and Aichi's Haccho Miso for their mellow, flavorful Tokusen Miso ramen, a must-try bowl.

  • Ramen Sapporo Bacchi-ken
    Gourmet / Alcohol
    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku
This shop offers ramen that's rich but doesn't weigh heavy. They offer tonkotsu pork bone based super-savory soy sauce ramen on the third floor of a building near Susukino Station. The usual way to enjoy it is with the hajikami topping, with grilled fish and more. The hajikami ginger, which is up to three centimeters thick, is the perfect accent to their thick ramen broth. It's also a great partner to their flavorfully steeped young bamboo sprouts. The medium-thick, straight noodles pick up the broth's iwanori seaweed and onions for a variable flavor that will have you finishing your bowl in no time!
  • Tenho
    Gourmet / Alcohol
    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku Minami 5-jo nishi 3
This ramen shop makes their broth in a special custom pot the size of an oil drum. It's made fresh every morning, without recycling the old, so this broth stands out for its total lack of old pork smell. Their most popular dish, with a diehard core of regular customers, is the Shoyu Ramen. Their specially made soy sauce base is mixed with char siu pork drippings for a full load of meaty goodness. It's finished with the lightest oil from the lard and pork bone broth for a smooth mouthfeel. The rich pork bone broth is perfectly matched with medium-thick crinkly noodles, for a bowl that even non-tonkotsu eaters will love.

This Susukino soup curry specialist is famous for serving their meals in clay pots. The spicy, piping hot curry arrives at your table sizzling in the heated pots. There are three different varieties of soup curry available here: the original soup, with rich vegetable and fruit flavors; the Japanese-style soup made with a secret recipe; and the Shrimp Tomato soup loaded with rich shrimp flavor. You can also choose the level of spice. Because it's in the heart of Susukino, it's open late at night, and they also offer delivery.

This ramen uses broth made from Abashiri-caught shijimi clam stock. It has a shop in Sapporo's iconic sightseeing spot, Ganso Sapporo Ramen Yokocho. Their dish of pride, Kossari Shijimi Ramen, is marked by its use of white chicken broth along with the shijimi stock. Naturally, it pairs with iwanori seaweed, and the match with medium-thickness crinkly noodles adds a whole new level of taste enjoyment. A cheesecake shop identifiable by its regal exterior. The shop has continued to make high quality cheesecakes whose superior flavor is revealed in their simplicity since it opened in 1993. The shop's most popular product is its rich and creamy Kase cheesecake. This vaunted gem has a smooth texture and the faintest citrus aroma. Made according to the same recipe as when the restaurant was founded, customers can buy by the slice or purchase a whole cake. The shop carries over 15 varieties of cakes, standard, including no-bake varieties which have even strong fruit juice and citrus notes, baked cheesecakes which go great with wine, and cheesecakes combined with whipped cream layers.

"This shop offers lunchtime ""Genghis Khan"" (Mongolian mutton barbecue), which is normally considered a night-time drinking session dish. Located near Susukino Station on Sapporo ekimae-dori Street, they specialize in deeply flavorful meat dishes. The restaurant's owner carefully selects the highest grade meat, free of mutton's usually powerful aroma, for juicy, tender dishes. With the high grade, low-cholesterol and low-calorie lamb meat and lots of vegetables, Genghis Khan is quite popular with a wide range of clientele as a healthy and beautifying dish. The shop makes its own secret sauce from apples, onions, and 10 different vegetables, which they then mature for over a month, for the perfect taste accent."

We went in by chance after wandering around to find a nice Genghis Khan place, and it was a great choice. The lamb tasted fresh, the atmosphere was warm and nice, the beer was cold and refreshing...
