Hokkaido Sapporoshi Chuou-ku Kitaichijounishi 2-chome Former Sapporo Agricultural College Demonstration Center

The clock tower familiarly, called “Sapporo Clock Tower” was originally constructed as a drill hall for the former Sapporo Agricultural College, the predecessor of Hokkaido University. Originally there was no bell tower but only a mechanism of pulling a rope to ring a small bell, however, the bell tower was constructed in 1881 under the direction of the Governor Kiyotaka Kuroda and since then a Howard pendulum type clock has been in use. It is about 10 minutes on foot from the nearest Odoori Station. The first floor serves as a museum displaying the history of the clock tower and on the second floor you can experience the atmosphere of the historic drill hall and view the workings of the clock.

It is a tiny building surrounded by tall buildings. Nothing special, just a tiny wooden building. There is an entrance fee for those who want to see it from inside.

Admission to the museum is free, but the paid tour (about 50 minutes) is recommended if you have the time. You can learn about the history of Sapporo Beer with the powerful 6K wide-screen theater and easy-to-understand guide. Also you can only sample the “Fukkokuban Sapporo-sei Bakushu” (Reproduced Sapporo Beer) that recreates the flavor at the time of Sapporo Beer's establishment as well as the iconic Black Label Sapporo Beer on the paid tour. The Hokkaido-Sapporo Food & Tourism Information Center is a collaboration between Hokkaido and Sapporo City that aims to disseminate sightseeing information and eating attractions to tourists and locals. It is located at the north exit of the west concourse on the first floor of JR Sapporo Station, and is the first facility in Japan to contain the three entities of the prefecture, municipality and JR. There is also a corner with pamphlets from all around Hokkaido and a cafe that publicizes and sells safe and sound Hokkaido foods where it is easy to savor light refreshments using local specialties.

This is a place where you can see, touch and experience the fun of winter sports.

You can have a go at harvesting the vegetables cultivated in Satoland and the agricultural experience program, where you can make food including butter, sausages, and ice cream using ingredients grown and harvested on the farm. Built in the eastern end of Odori Park, this television tower has a height of 147.2 meters. It was constructed when television broadcasting first began in Sapporo. Now it is popular as a view spot that affords a 360° view of Sapporo’s urban area. One can appreciate the scenery of Sapporo’s four seasons including the abundant greenery of Odori Park, the YOSAKOI Soran Festival, and the Sapporo Snow Festival from the observatory that is 90.38 meters from the ground below. The Okurayama Jump Stadium hosted the Sapporo Winter Olympic in 1972 and many other international competitions. You can go to the viewing lounge in a two-person ski lift, and in five minutes see Sapporo City and the steep slope courses up close, which is quite fun. It is located about 30 minutes by car from Sapporo Station.

The building called “The red brick office” (aka renga chosha) is the symbol of development in Hokkaido and is a brick building that was completed in 1888. It is built in the neo-baroque American-style and is designated as a National Important Cultural Property.
