    Hokkaido Asahikawa-shi Asahigaoka 2-9
The oldest potter in Asahikawa. They continue to make pieces that show the nature of Hokkaido and the changing of the seasons. They use the Crystal Glaze technique, which was passed on to the third generation of Taisetsugama and was inspired by the idea of snow and ice. Various conditions including the composition of the glaze and the temperature of the kiln cause parts of the glaze to appear as crystal. The inconsistency of the amount of crystallization is part of the attraction. In their workshop, surrounded by vibrant colors including the fresh greens of spring or the changing autumn colors, they offer workshops in making teacups and coffee cups.

Hokkaido Areas

around-area-map

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
