    This restaurant is located inside Kakuichi Baba shop, a fresh seafood broker and wholesaler for the Akkeshi region. The homey interior is the perfect place to enjoy fresh seafood meal. Rather than tricky charcoal grilling, this shop stands out for its use of griddle steaming. They offer highly fresh and juicy oysters, scallops, clams, and whelks as well. Their Crab Fried Rice and Seafood Ramen, which were once back-kitchen dishes for staff-only but are now on the regular menu, are big hits.

    昼食でカキフライ定食や蒸し牡蠣をいただきました。カキフライの牡蠣ひとつひとつが大きくてジューシーでとてもおいしかったです。でもお値段は1300円とちょっとだけ高い気がしました。

One of the defining features of Araiso cuisine, which uses food from the land and sea of the area around Shiretoko-utoro which is a world natural heritage site, is that it is committed to local produce and local consumption. Here you can enjoy a variety of dishes such as sashimi, seafood on rice, venison cooked in leaf, Shiretoko seafood noodles, and other delicacies. The restaurant owner is also Chairman of the Shiretoko Local Cuisine Society. The illusive salmon (young salmon), said to be caught only once out of 10,000 fish, is very occasionally served at the restaurant.

    This place is an institution in the area, having been around since 1976! It serves relatively affordable variety of meals that should suit almost everyone.

    Nabekyuu is a restaurant specializing in local cuisine that is located near Lake Akan, surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. As might be expected, the Sockeye Salmon and Japanese Pond Smelt caught locally in Lake Akan are particularly popular. In winter, the Japanese Pond Smelt is in season and can be eaten as Tempura, fried in a light coating of batter; it has a wonderful crisp texture and a delicious mild flavor. The Sockeye Salmon is in season in early summer, when it can be enjoyed as Sashimi or grilled with salt; both are equally delicious. The restaurant’s Sockeye Salmon Don (a bowl of fish and rice) and Japanese Pond Smelt Don dishes are also available as half-sized portions, so diners can try both fish together.

    The handmade soba is very tasty and texture is definitely very from those ready made one. Worth a try if you are around the area.

The store is known for its home cooking that uses vegetables picked in the morning, local seasonal seafood and locally raised meat. The small interior has a relaxing atmosphere that feels like you're at home. The scallop and egg rice bowl is highly recommended. It has young shellfish fry taken from Funka (volcano) Bay cooked with egg over rice, and comes with shellfish miso soup and pickles. The Tonkatsu Set using fresh Date golden pork and pork cutlet rice bowl are also popular. The fresh sashimi assortment is also a perfect match as a snack when drinking.
