Hiroshima Pref. Hatsukaichishi Miyajimachou In the autumnal park
A ropeway connecting Shishiiwa Station at the top of the sacred mountain (Mt. Misen) with Momijidani Station at the foot of the mountain, in Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Mt. Misen is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with Itsukushima Shrine. There are still so many things to see here, such as the untouched natural primeval forest, amazing rock formations, shrines and temples, as well as an observation deck. Passengers can enjoy magnificent views of the natural scenery and deep blue sea down below from inside the gondolas. The journey time takes approximately 14 minutes. The mid-way Kayatani Station is used only for transfers so passengers cannot get off here.

The ropeway is a good choice to buy time (almost 2 hours) if you do not want to stress up hiking all the way to the top (observatory). If you start early, you could complete the mountain top and the...

    Shizuoka Pref. Itoushi Ike 672-2
Covered by greenery year round, 580 meter tall Mt. Omuro resembles an overturned Japanese bowl. The mountain serves as a symbol of the city of Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture. The Mt. Omuro Lift connects the foot of the mountain and its top, and riders can enjoy a spectacular view during the approximate six minute ride. Note that climbing the mountain on foot is prohibited. The top of the mountain is a 300 meter diameter extinct volcanic crater. Walkers along the Ohachi-meguri trail, which circles the crater, can see the Akaishi Mountains, Mt. Fuji, and the Seven Islands of Izu. Each year on the second Sunday in February, a breathtaking controlled burn is conducted on the mountain. On New Year’s Day, many visitors come to watch the sunrise from the top of the mountain, and the lift begins operation from 5:40 am on the day.

This is just a usual two person ski lift and no doubt the easiest way to reach the crater of Mount Omuro. To skiers, the ride is nothing special, but to those who ride such lifts for the first time...

The Loople Sendai bus brings passengers to tourist spots around central Sendai City, and it arrives every 20 minutes on weekdays and 15 minutes on weekends. The Tairyuji Ropeway connects the Washi-no-Sato roadside station rest area in Naka Town, Naka County, Tokushima Prefecture with the Tairyu-ji Temple, which is the 21st temple of the Shikoku 88-temple Pilgrimage. With a total length of 2,775 meters, it is the longest ropeway in Western Japan. The Ropeway crosses the Naka River (a Class A major river) and passes over 600-meter-high hills. In the past, pilgrims could only travel to the Tairyu-ji Temple to worship by ascending a steep mountain path, a serious obstacle that was known colloquially as the “pilgrim slide” because it was so difficult to climb up. Following the construction of the Ropeway, it was possible for larger numbers of pilgrims to visit the Temple.

One of the longest ropeways I’ve ever been on. The views were amazing and the destination was beautiful. Staff was very friendly and knew their stuff.

    Tokyo Chiyoda-ku Marunouchi 2-5-2 Mitsubishi Building 1F
These regularly scheduled sightseeing bus routes make use of charming red double-decker busses. Climb onboard, take the stairs up to the roofless top deck, and go on a sightseeing tour around some of Tokyo's most prominent areas, such as Marunouchi and Odaiba. Ticket booths are scattered all around Tokyo, meaning you don't need reservations and can go on a tour whenever you feel like it. The busses' windows are purposely set low so that riders can more easily see the scenery sprawling all around them. Fun for adults and children alike, there are also special seasonal courses on which you can take in cherry blossoms in spring, fall foliage in autumn, and other seasonal scenery; and character tie-in events. The same company also operates Sky Duck amphibious bus tours which let you take in the city's sights from the sea.

We did not do the Sky Hop Buses in Tokyo after researching and trying to find the buses. We saw them when we were in our hired bus excursions but they looked like they were all open topped with no...

Tsukuba cable car established in 1925 is a historic cable car which was the 2nd earliest cable car to operate in Kanto and the 5th earliest in Japan. It connects the 1,643 meters between Miyawaki Station half way up Tsukubasan (305 meters above sea level) and Tsukubasancho Station (800 meters above sea level) in about eight minutes. From its windows, you can gaze at seasonal plants and flowers, and it is a perfect place for foliage especially in fall. The view from the peak is magnificent, and you can see Tokyo Skytree in the distance.

This ropeway travels 2,330 meters between Kanose and Iimori Kogen Stations with a difference in height above sea level of 580 meters, taking 15 minutes each way. Located at around 2,000 meters above sea level in a mountainous area, the service may be suspended depending on circumstances due to changing weather conditions. In the Kozan Botanical Gardens at the summit, you will find lovely flowers including Potentilla fruticose var. mandshurica, Phyllodoce nipponica, clubmoss mountain heather and Rhododendrum dauricum. There is also an observatory restaurant from which you can look at the superb view while enjoying pasta or sweets created by the chef.

It departs from “River Station Hachikenya” near Temmabashi Station and travels overland around famous spots such as the Osaka City Hall, Midosuji, Osaka Prefectural Office, Osaka Castle, and Osaka Mint Bureau. At Sakuranomiya Park, famous as a cherry blossoming spot, the bus driver quickly turns into a boat captain. The moment the bus dynamically plunges into the Okawa River using a slope is impressive. The guide’s entertaining talk introducing the city of Osaka is also enjoyable.

This tourist boat dock in Ogi Port is a four-minute walk from Sado Kisen. It is popular for its taraibune (wash tub boat) rides, one of Sado's key tourist attractions. The relaxing boats, which seat up to three adults, can be paddled by an oarswoman or by the passengers themselves. While the boats might appear unstable, they are surprisingly hard to capsize, making riding one like taking a leisurely stroll on the ocean. The dock also offers motorboat tours of the Ogi Coast lasting between 10 to 35 minutes, as well as high-speed sightseeing boats (group reservation required).
