Okinawa Yaeyama-gun Taketomicho Minami Kazami 201
"In the watershed of Nakama River which flows in the southeast part of Iriomote Island, there is Japan's largest mangrove forest which consists of trees such as Heritiera littoralis and Sonneratia alba, and has been designated a National Natural Monument as ""Nakama River Conservation District."" It is also home to precious nature such as ""Ubundoru Yaeyama Palm Tree Grove"" which is designated a Natural Monument, and a pleasure boat ""Nakama River Mangrove Cruise"" operates so you can observe the watershed."

This boat trip descends the Mogami River. They're regular route covers about 12 kilometers from Furukuchi Pier in Furukuchi, Tozawa Village to Kusanagi Pier. It operates every day of the year. The hour-long journey lets visitors enjoy the seasonal views of the Mogami Gorge. The songs of the well-trained boatmen are one of the highlights, and on occasion they'll break into mimicry or sing in Korean. They also offer a variety of special plans, like a course that takes in Shiraito Falls from April to November and a cool of the evening cruise in July and August where you can watch the sun set from the Mogami River.

    Kumamoto Pref. Hitoyoshishi Shimoshinmachi 333-1
"It is located an approximately 10-minute drive from the Hitoyoshi Interchange on the Kyushu Expressway. This popular activity lets you descend the Kuma River, one of Japan's three most fast-flowing rivers along with the Mogami River and Fujigawa River, in a wooden boat that the boatman skillfully maneuvers. You can feel the exhilaration of passing through huge rocks you come very close to and rough waves. The approximately 50-minute ""Seiryu course"" from the Hitoyoshi departure dock to the hot spring town of Hitoyoshi is available from March to November. Between December and February, it becomes relaxing boat with kotatsu (tables heated underneath), offering a different way of enjoyment than the rough rafting in the summer."

Must do activity while in Hitoyoshi. Made reservation at the Hitoyoshi tour information center and enjoyed a very nice tour.

Tochigi Pref. Nikkoushi Nishikawa 478-1 Road Station Yu Nishikawa
This is Japan's first amphibious land and water bus tour. Take a tour of Yunishigawa Dam and then a cruise around Yunishigawa Lake formed by the dam. The open windowless design of the bus gives a sense of freedom and gives the cruise experience so much more impact. Tours operate from April to December.

This river port is about five minutes on foot from JR Furukuchi Station. It serves sightseeing boats that ply the Mogami River towards Kawa-no-Eki Mogamikyo Kusanagi. The Mogami River Basho Line Descent lets visitors take in the scenery from the river while listening to the songs of the quirky boatmen. They offer a limited period cruise course, and the boat itself transforms with the seasons with bamboo shades replacing the roof in summer and heated low kotatsu tables installed for winter.
