This is a magnificent waterfall which cascades down the 97 meter high sheer cliffs in a flash, and is one of Japan’s top three most famous waterfalls. If you go down to the observation deck by elevator which requires the payment of a fee, you will be able to experience up close the intensity of the water falling down which rises from the waterfall basin with a splash. You can enjoy the magnificent fresh greenery and the figure of Asian house martins flying around in the vicinity of the waterfall in the early summer, crimson foliage in the autumn and in winter, the frozen small falls or the twelve falls as they are called located half way up the waterfall provide us with a beautiful display. It is a waterfall which provides us with picturesque scenery from season to season.

Was in town and took the bus all the way up to the onsen final destination for the day and made a few stops along the way including Kegon falls. I didnt expect much and thought gee one of the most...

    Osaka Minoshi Minokouen
This 33-meter-tall waterfall was chosen as one of Japan’s 100 most beautiful waterfalls. It is located inside Meiji no Mori Mino Quasi-National Park in Minoh City, Osaka Prefecture. Known as a popular fall foliage spot, many visitors come during the autumn season. There is a “waterfall walkway” approximately 2.8 kilometers long that starts in front of Minoh Station and offers wonderful views of the natural forests of Osaka. The fall foliage is best from mid-November through the beginning of December. In the middle of the walkway is the Mino Park Museum of Insects, another popular spot.

Ive read most reviews saying that the hike up to the waterfall is an easy one, with gentle uphill slope. However, personal experience is that some parts of the hike isnt that easy, and it could...

The refreshing sight is one of Karuizawa’s representative sightseeing spots. In the winter, icicles are artificially created using water gushing forth from the waterfall, producing a fantastical atmosphere.
  • Fukuroda Falls

    Ibaraki Pref. Kujigundaigomachi Fukuroda 3-19
One of Japan’s Top Three Waterfalls, the Fukuroda Falls in Kuji County, Ibaraki Prefecture, are 73 meters wide with a 120-meter drop over the tributaries and rapids of Kuji River. Also called “Shido-no-taki” because the falls break over four levels of rocks or because Saigyo Hoshi suggested visiting in each of the four seasons. Its icy visage in winter and the leaves of fall make for particularly inspiring views. The old lookout deck and the new one built in 2008 offer you different views to enjoy.

Kanagawa Pref. Ashigarashimogunhakonemachi Yumoto 682 Tengenen
These are two waterfalls in the garden of the Japanese inn “Tenseien” in Hakone Town, Ashigarashimo County, Kanagawa Prefecture. They are famous in Hakone for their water, which supposedly grants longevity. The beautiful eight-meter tall, 11-meter wide “Tamadare” waterfall was loved by poet Akiko Yosano, and it was named “Tamadare” because the way the water flows over the rock cliff makes it look like “tamasudare” (rain lilies). There is a sacred Shinto straw festoon in the middle of the cliff. “Hien” waterfall was named such because the splashing water looks like rising smoke. About 20 meters tall and 10 meters wide, it makes a powerful impression. Tamadare-jinja Shrine is situated between the waterfalls and is said to bring love, good health, and so on. The garden with the waterfalls can be accessed by people who aren’t lodging there or using the baths.

Nice falls within walking distance from Hotel Kajikaso hotel. There was no people when we went around 5 PM.

Rokko, the falls are considered on the three most sacred waterfalls in Japan. The Ontaki, 43 meters tall, is particularly impressive, dropping down and switching its direction in five stages from a rock cropping. Each stage has a cauldron-like basin which legend says leads to the Palace of the Dragon King under the sea. The falls have also been selected as one of the 100 most beautiful waterfalls in Japan.

    Travel / Tourism
    Tochigi Pref. Nikkoushi Chugushi
This is a sightseeing spot which is representative of Oku-Nikko and is considered to be one of the three great falls in Nikko. The highlight is the appearance of water running down over the roughly 200 meter expanse of lava rock which formed during the eruption of Mt. Nantai. It is said that the naming of Ryuzu Waterfall (dragon head waterfall) is because the waterfall looks just like a dragon’s head with white bubbles streaming down, and due to the waterfall being split into two by a large rock near to the basin under the waterfall. Between May and June is a particularly popular season when the Rhododendrons are in full bloom.

This is a small waterfall with a height of about 10 meters and a width of about 20 meters, but the appearance of sunlight shining through the curtain-like broadly cascading water is extremely beautiful. “Urami no taki” which is enjoying the waterfall by going around to the other side of the fall is also popular. Oita Taketa-shi
"A waterfall located in Hinatame, Ogi-machi, Taketa City. Situated along the Ono River, the waterfall's name means ""white water,"" and there are two theories as to how it got this name. One is that it is because the waterfall appears white due to its numerous streams; the other is that because it is comprised of 99 streams, its name was written with the character for ""100"" minus a line at the top representing ""one,"" resulting in the character for ""white."""
