Mie Pref. Iseshi Futamichoue 575 Meoto Iwa in
The Husband and Wife Rocks is a fantastic sightseeing spot on Futamigaura Beach and this unique geographic feature has long been seen as a place to worship the sunrise. The rocks are seen as torii gates for the rising sun and are located on the sacred Okitama jinseki group of holy stones 700 meters away from the coast connected to the god Sarutahiko. The male stone is nine meters high; the female four meters. The sun can be seen rising between the rocks from May through July, while in autumn and winter, full moon appears between them.

If visiting Ise, you have to visit Meotoiwa Rocks. Its a few minutes drive from town along the coast. There is parking here, but it can be limited. There is a nice paved trail hugging the coast that...

Shizuoka Prefecture Takashima-shi Makino Town Kaizu
A scenic area situated along Prefectural Route 557 in Kaizu Makino-cho, Takashima City. A reef formed by erosion, the area is also known as one of the Eight Views of Lake Biwa, traditional scenic views of the lake, its title being “Dawn Fog—Kaizu Osaki Peninsula Reef.” In addition, the area is a renowned destination for cherry blossoms in the spring; selected for inclusion in Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots, some 600 Yoshino cherries 50 years or older grow in a four-kilometer-long row here.

Spectacular cherry blossoms along the roadway and lake. Full bloom had passed. The hanafubuki was stunning.

This is a stone culture ruin dotted with huge megaliths named sun stones, and Cuneiform script-engraved mirror stones. If one borrows a compass from the management center and takes a walk around, the strong magnetic field means the needle which should by all rights be pointing North begins to swing creating quite an unsettling experience! It’s a spot where one can enjoy the beauty of nature including views of Mt. Kuju and Mt. Aso.

An aesthetic landscape in Jogashima Island, Misaki-machi, Miura City. A sea cave on the southern tip of Jogashima Island created by the power of nature offset with the vastness of the Pacific Ocean is a sight to behold. The site can be located by foot from Jogashima Park located on the eastern side of the island.

    Wakayama Prefecture Higashimuro-gun Kushimoto-cho Hashikui
The Hashikuiiwa Rocks are about 40 rocks of various sizes in a row towering over the seashore from Kushimoto heading towards Oshima. The name comes from the fact that the row of rocks stretching for about 850 meters looks as though bridge piles have been left on the shore. At low tide visitors can walk to Bentenjima Islet which is nearly in the middle of the row. In addition to this sightseeing spot being selected as one of Japan’s 100 best places to watch the sunrise, as it is popular to watch the sun rise over the Hashikuiiwa Rocks, it has also been designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty and a Natural Monument.

At low tide visitors can enjoy a view of the approximately eight-kilometer shoreline from Aoshima Island to Kinchaku Island in the south. The area was designated a National Natural Monument in 1934.
