    This pottery workshop in Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture offers visitors a chance to try their hand at Izu pottery. This workshop was authorized by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as Business innovation which utilizes unique and ingenious pottery kiln method to create original works of pottery inspired by Izu's famous products and scenery. These include their Izu-Shirahama ware (which depicts Izu's famous Shirahama beach), Izu no Sakura to Na no Hana ware (which depicts Izu's famous cherry blossoms and rape blossoms), and Amagi Wasabi ware (which depicts the wasabi grown around Izu's Mt. Amagi). The workshop and its facilities were built by the staff themselves, leaving as many trees standing as possible in order to leverage the natural landscape of Izu Kogen. Why not spend a lazy afternoon making pottery at this forest workshop?

    A theme park where you can learn about the traditional crafts of Hitoyoshi and Kuma, an area selected for inclusion in the Japan Heritage list. The park consists of nine facilities, including a ceramics arts hall, smithing hall, glass hall, and teahouse, and visitors can make a variety of crafts by hand under the guidance of skilled artisans. There's also an observatory with a sweeping view of the Kyushu Mountains, a campground, and a park perfect for small children, making this a great destination for the whole family and for a variety of purposes. The local specialty products market sells traditional kijiuma wheeled bird toys, hanatebako boxes painted with camellias, and a wide variety of other gifts and souvenirs from Hitoyoshi and Kuma.

    A pottery experience class in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, which is famous for Tokoname ware. It's in Ceramall, a ceramics shopping mall near the southern end of Tokoname Park. Even elementary school students can easily enjoy making pottery there with their potter's wheel. Being in a mall, it's nice to stop by after sightseeing or other errands. Evening sessions are available between 18:00 and 20:00 with a reservation, which is helpful if that's the only time you have for sightseeing. There is also a coffee shop on-site. They serve tea, coffee, and sweets like anmitsu (syrup-covered bean jam and fruit) in original ceramic vessels.

    A pottery studio of Aizu-hongo ware was founded in 2001 that has been making pieces sporting a modern youthful flair. The workshop is located in a remodeled kominka (old houses) and marked by its handmade signboard, and they produce simple and modern tableware that fits in with a modern lifestyle. The studio is known for their large number of works in the Konabiki style in which a white clay is layered over the base and then covered with a clear glaze. The beautiful gentle appearance, almost as though dusted with powder, is gaining popularity amongst women and young people. They also operate a cafe and gallery in a renovated warehouse just a short distance from the workshop.

You can also reserve a pottery experience class up to the day before your visit.

According to the Iwami region's pottery lore, the district where Miyauchi Pottery is located is said to be the oldest in the tradition. They also hold pottery workshops where you can make items like teacups and bowls under the careful guidance of a traditional craftsman. The methods traditionally cultivated for making larger items has been passed down to the present day where they make practical pottery for modern living like tableware, umbrella stands, and garden sets."

    This pottery is located along Prefectural Route 79 in Nagura, Ishigaki City. They create works of Ishigakiyaki, an original style of pottery. Ishigakiyaki expresses the blue of the oceans of Ishigaki Island by combining pottery glazed using the now-uncommon Yuteki Tenmoku technique with glasswork. Visitors can try their hand at making Ishigakiyaki, shisa figurines, and other items at one of their pottery classes (reservation required).

It's capable of firing not only Oribe, Kiseto, and Shino pottery, but also celadon, underglaze iron decoration, ceramics painting, and porcelain decorated with colored pictures. In addition to trial ceramics classes, classes where you learn the basics, and classes designed to suit participants' needs, they also have five hands-on pottery workshops. All of workshops and classes require reservations.

    What a fantastic workshop! It was my first time to try pottery making ever. The lady teaching me and my girlfriend speaks English, is very professional and really makes it interesting and engaging...
