    A library which boasts one of the largest collections of materials of any library, even other national libraries, in Japan. The Central Library’s collection exceeds 1.9 million volumes, of which approximately 350 thousand, centering primarily around new books, may be browsed freely. Five stories in total, the library contains open access collections of books by genre on each floor as well as multi-purpose halls and reading rooms. In the library’s cafeteria, visitors can relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery outside from a window-side seat.

    A prefectural museum opened in 1904 located in Nakanoshima, Osaka, an area dotted with retro and old fashioned buildings. The solemn stone New-Baroque building is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property. The library’s collection is primarily dedicated to books and materials on Osaka; classical Japanese, Chinese, and Korean books; and business-related materials, and is frequently made use of by researchers. The library also has rentable spaces, a library shop, and a café serving Denmark home-style cuisine. The closest station is Yodoyabashi Station.

    The facility houses the Kurobe City History and Folklore Museum, and the Kurobe City Library Unazuki Building. The History and Folklore museum has a half-scale model of Aimotohane Bridge, known as one of Japan's three great bridges. They also hold events like periodic special exhibits, history lectures, and more so visitors can learn about the history, literature, performing arts, folklore, industry, and nature of Kurobe.

  • Kyoto Prefectural Library

    Located about a 10-minute walk from the Higashiyama Station on the Tozai Subway Line, this public library was founded in 1898, and was preceded by the Shushoin, the first structure of its type in which a collection of books were preserved and available for public perusal. The current three-story brick structure was designed by the architect Takeda Goichi and built in 1909 when moved from its original site, and continued to be used as the main hall until the Han-Shin Awaji Earthquake disaster. The facade only was preserved thereafter and can still be seen at that time on the currently completed new building.

    This library cafe was developed around the concept of Shibuya's evening library. Since it's located in a rental room in a Shibuya residential building, entry requires a membership card key or a call by intercom. Inside you'll find full bookshelves and can enjoy a meal or drink over a book. Non-members must pay an extra fee. There are also occasional reading events.

    Japan’s first public manga special library opened in 1997 in Minami Ward, Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. There is a collection of more than 130,000 volumes of manga and material related to manga. There are old manuscripts and reprinted manga and magazines, etc. and is a unique place where you can touch the roots of manga and history. In addition to viewing manga and materials on display, you can also use the Hiroshima City Library card for borrowing. There are also exhibits and various seminars introducing manga related to various themes.

In addition to a photocopying service that anyone may use within the limits of the law, the library also gives users advice on using computers and the internet. Its many programs include a children's story hour and having readers select books for literary prizes. It is also possible to check out ""good luck books,"" the content of which is not revealed until the user borrows it."

    This fee-charing, study room-style private library is located a short distance west of the intersection between Imadegawa-dori Street and Shirakawa-dori Street. At the reception counter, choose an open seat; you then pay in accordance with the amount of time you stay. Customers are free to bring in their own food and drink but the library also offers free green tea and sells coffee and black tea at low prices. Customers can freely read the books lining the library's shelves and, excluding a portion of the collection, borrow books as well. You can reserve a seat on Sundays and holidays. Regardless of the day of the week, the library is happily open until midnight. The library is a great place to study or take a break.

    Chihitsu Bunko is a library that holds 220,000 books donated by the author Inoue Hisashi, who was from Kawanishi Town. It is located in Kawanishi Friendly Plaza, near JR Dewa-Komatsu Station. Almost all the books were used as materials when Inoue was writing his works, including documents that have his sticky notes and handwritten memos just as he left them. The exhibit room presents handwritten manuscripts and notebooks, indications of his creative process. Another sight is the bookshelf “Book Tree” in the center of the exhibit room, filled with copies of Inoue's works donated by readers. Visitors can pick up message cards at the counter and insert them in between the books.

    A five-minute walk from the Bunka Zone-mae bus stop. This library adjoins The Museum of Modern Art, Shiga in Biwako Culture Park. The library houses a huge number of books; the general collection room contains 150 thousand volumes, the reference room 60 thousand volumes, and the children's room 40 thousand volumes. The library also has many magazines and newspapers. The library's hall is used to host concerts on Saturdays, while casual conversation meetups are held in the lounge on the third Friday of the month, and the library also serves as a space for local residents to rest and relax. Lastly, the library also has a restaurant.

    A library located a five-minute drive from the Setouchi Town Hall. In addition to general-interest books, the spacious interior of the library contains an area devoted to the works and personal items of noted author Shimao Toshio, as well as a room that contains exhibits about local folklore and customs. Photographs and videos give visitors an easily understood introduction to the history, culture, and traditional performing arts of the town of Setouchi, including artifacts related to Shodon Shibaya, (a historical pageant), Yui Honen Odori (a dance), and Noro (priestess)'s equipment used in rituals. In addition, the library offers a wide variety of nature programs for children.
