Osawaya is an udon noodle restaurant founded in 1970 that serves Mizusawa udon, which is one of the three major udon noodle dishes in Japan. The udon at Osawaya which is said to take two days and 27 processes to make is delicious with the chewy, transparent, and smooth character of Mizusawa udon noodles. The best way to enjoy this udon is chilled noodles served on a bamboo draining basket and this is offered on the menu all year around. It is an irresistible dish for udon lovers. The set menus such as the maitake mushroom tempura and boiled wild herbs with noodles are recommended. It is approximately 20 minutes by car from the Shibukawa-Ikaho Interchange on the Kan-Etsu Expressway.

Yamagoe Udon is an udon noodle restaurant founded in 1941 in Ayagawa Town, Ayauta County, Kagawa Prefecture, famous as the home of kamatama udon. Even during the week people are often waiting to get a table at this sought after restaurant. Kamatama udon was conceived when a regular customer came into the restaurant with an egg and ate it after mixing it with some hot udon noodles straight from the pot. Many people come for this great tasting dish of udon noodles made with the famous local waters, egg and specially made stock and soy sauce mixture all brought together in perfect harmony. The kamatamayama which is the kamatama udon topped with yam, is also popular. They also have a wide variety of toppings including tempura.

I went there by udon bus tour. It was around 10am in the morning but already lots of people were eating udon. Kamata udon was really taste. Fried mashed potato was also great.

A handmade soba noodle restaurant standing near the Togetsukyo Bridge, a popular spot in Kyoto City’s Arashiyama area. The shop’s handsome sign, decorated with characters that read “Busho” written by the great artist Rosanjin, welcomes diners. Inside, you can look out over the Togetsukyo Bridge and enjoy the beauty of the season while savoring the flavor of buckwheat noodles crafted by a culinary artisan. The shop’s Kyoto vegetable soba is particularly popular with women customers.

People come to this store just for their limited winter menu with Kamonanban soba, which is so popular.
