This spot, which has been featured on television, allows visitors to enjoy Okinawa soba and seafood dishes. The atrium-style interior is designed after a traditional Japanese home, with 80 tatami mat seats and 10 tables. The extensive menu features everything from “Okinawa soba” to iced zenzai (red bean sweet). The soba noodles are firm and come with a light soup that complement them perfectly. The “seafood rice bowl” is a luxurious dish chock-full of the blessings of the sea.

Urizun is a restaurant specializing in Okinawan cuisine that has been operating for over 40 years; it is located around five minutes’ walk from Asato Station on the Okinawa Monorail (Yui Rail) line. Diners can enjoy the restaurant’s famous Kusu (aged Awamori spirit), which has been specially blended by the restaurant owner using Awamori from an old wine store in Shuri, and then left to age for several more years in earthenware jars. A five-minute walk from Kencho-mae Station, this long-established dining hall was opened over fifty years ago. Okinawa-style set meals are offered at reasonable prices and with generous servings, making this a favorite spot among locals and tourists alike. It is open 24 hours a day year-round, with the exception of the first three days of the year and two days during the lunar calendar Bon Festival. In December 2016, the dining hall changed locations to a spot a one-minute walk away from its former location, so be careful not to go to the wrong address.

This Okinawan restaurant is where Okinawan folk song and shimauta sanshin lives are held every night. They offer an extensive menu, from authentic Okinawan dishes to seafood dishes using plenty of fresh seafood direct from the fishing port’s morning market and meat dishes using black hair wagyu beef and Agu pork with a homemade taste. They also offer pickups and drop-offs to area hotels near the restaurant in Onna Village. (Reservations are required)

My first experience in Chinuman was ok, food quality is average, and service wasn’t special. Price against quality wasn’t good enough.

This is the company store for the long-standing “Koja Soba Factory” founded in 1932. The store has a calm air about it that women can feel comfortable entering alone. It’s popular with the locals, and the traditional, plain taste is as enjoyable as always. The most popular item is the “soki soba” (Okinawan noodles made from wheat powder). The springy noodles are topped with soft, sweet pork, and the soup is clear and has a light taste. Both the soba sets and individual item menu offer numerous options.

Great local soba dishes all for 850 yen - must try! Really enjoyable food in a nice location - close to the airport

Every evening, there are live performance of Shima-uta (traditional Okinawan folk music) and Okinawan sanshin (shamisen) playing, enabling visitors to enjoy both Miyako-jima cuisine and local culture at the same time. The Goya-Hanare restaurant, which also serves local cuisine (including snapping turtle), is located along the same stretch of road.

We booked about 4 in the afternoon and got a spot at the counter. I noticed that no one was smoking inside which pleased us. They charge about 350 yen for the live entertainment ( a trio of singers...

A 30-minute drive from Painushima Ishigaki Airport. Here you can enjoy a meal while watching a show comprised of Yaeyama music and dancing. Customers are greeted by two Okinawan lion dog statues and a small garden stand guard in front of the large white walled building. Theater seating is provided on the first floor while the second floor is occupied by banquet halls. There are five spacious banquet halls in all with table seating or more relaxed tatami mat seating. The full menu includes an array of a la carte dishes like Ishigaki beef steak and Okinawa style stews, plus course meals making use of Okinawa's unique culinary delights.

This dining hall was founded in 1962 and is open 24 hours. It is famous as the origin of the “pork and eggs set,” which has become a standard of Okinawan cuisine. There's also goya chanpuru, Okinawa soba, and other home-style cooking with plenty of vegetables. The main draw is their katsudon (pork cutlet rice bowl). The sweet and savory sauce, soba soup stock, and braised pork is sure to whet your appetite.

Great local cuisine; providing a range of dishes to tempt all cuisine styles inc vegetarians like me. Menues are in English and prices are very reasonable.

Situated on a small hill in Yaese Town, Shimajiri County, this restaurant features a red-brick design and offers local cuisine and sweets. The pure Ryukyu-style “karaya” tiled building is a registered Tangible Cultural Property. This restaurant has been repeatedly voted on sites such as “Hitosara” and “Tabelog” as having the “best lunch” and other distinctions. Their popular Okinawa soba uses a rich soup with a wonderfully light taste. There’s also “asa soba,” featuring noodles with sea lettuce kneaded into the flour, and “soy milk soba,” whose noodles contain soy milk. The dessert selection is impressive as well, with the “brown sugar zenzai (red bean sweet) with brown syrup and soybean flour” enjoying particular popularity. A wide selection of a la carte options is also available.

A little gem we found on TripAdvisor. Off the beaten track in this quaint little Okinawan house. The broth is so flavourful and the noodles are just the right texture. My Daughter has an egg...

This Yaeyama soba specialty shop is known for its devotion to health. Enjoy an exquisite bowl of Yaeyama soba made from carefully selected ingredients, including the noodles, soup, and seasoning you sprinkle onto your noodles. The soba noodles are firm and thin flat noodles made without preservatives or artificial coloring. The soup contains no chemical additives and is made with pork produced on the island that is boiled for a long time to produce a light, refreshing taste. The “jushi” (Okinawan paella) has a Yaeyama flavor that you won’t find anywhere else.

Yamaya, a restaurant that specializes in kimchi and Okinawa soba, makes its home in Kumoji of Naha City. The noodles are short and easily pick up the soup, which has a deep but light flavor that uses no chemical seasonings. The “Yamaya soba” is a popular and delicious dish that goes well with kimchi. There's also “kimchi yakisoba” and several other original menu items available. The hand-prepared kimchi uses no additives, and dishes such as the specially made “mozuku kimchi” (kimchi with a type of edible seaweed) and the seasonal “island Japanese leek with kimchi” combine typical Okinawan ingredients with kimchi.
