Kushikatsu Daruma head office is a very famous specialty kushikatsu (a grilled skewer) restaurant even for Shinsekai, a famous sightseeing place in Osaka. This well-established restaurant opened in 1929. It is also well-known as the birthplace of kushikatsu and often featured on TV and in magazines. It achieves a perfect balance by extracting the taste of ingredients with an uncompromising quality of batter, sauce and oil. The famous Original Kushikatsu, which is succulent beef in freshly fried crispy batter covered with sauce, has an irresistible taste. There are only 12 seats at the counter, so waiting in the queue is unavoidable.

Eating this for a second time after 4 years and don’t think it’s as tasty as before. Prices also went up considerably but still you will have longs queues due to its popularity. Had the 10 sticks...

    Osaka Osakashi Naniwa-ku Ebisuhigashi 1-6-8
This is a specialist “Kushi Age” (deep-fried skewered meat and vegetables) restaurant almost directly below Osaka Tsutenkaku Tower. The big billboard of “Kushikatsu daruma” is the restaurant’s landmark. This is a long-established Kushi Age restaurant which has continued for four generations since it was established in 1929, and it is a popular restaurant which continues to have queues form outside as it has a flavor liked by the average person in Osaka. In addition to the counter seats in the store, there are also 16 table seats so you can enjoy coming in a group or coming with the family. The specially made sauce, fine coating and exquisite original oil is well balanced, and the flavors extracted from the raw ingredients are surprisingly light. The crunchy interior has a sticky food texture—even those people who do not like deep fried food will find them delicious to eat.

Located a five-minute walk away from Exit 14, Namba Subway Station. This is a kushikatsu restaurant of long standing which has a rule, “don’t dip skewers into sauce twice”. They put a special sauce on the skewers. The restaurant’s dark brown sauce has been developed over a long time and has been carried down to the present day. The initial crispiness, followed by a sticky food texture is unique to Daruma. The food texture of the batter is well maintained by using a fine textured batter and also due to the sauce also being well mixed. They are the right size that they are easy for women and children to also eat them. In addition to the main dish of kushikatsu, they also have seasonal items and a set menu.

One of the Better Tasting Kushikatsu out there. If not for the dipping sauce I would have rated them 5. I find it unhygienic as to why you have to use the sauce over and over again from different...

The Shinsaibashi branch of the long-established Kushikatsu Daruma chain opens at 11:00 a.m. and has plenty of tables, so it attracts lots of family groups at lunchtime. The main focus of the menu is, as the restaurant’s name suggests, kushikatsu (Japanese-style deep-fried kebabs), but there is also a wide range of reasonably-priced set meals, including doteyaki (beef tendons stewed in miso and mirin) etc. Adults accompanying children who order less than a specified amount will be required to pay an additional cover charge, so it works out cheaper to order plenty of kushikatsu.

Good kushikatsu. A bit greasy. The recommended 9 piece set is more than enough for one person. Very friendly and helpful staff.

This kushikatsu (skewers of fried food) izakaya pub in Shinsekai has been in business since 1916. This pub has a bright small restaurant atmosphere with counter seats and in-floor tables. Their main menu is kushikatsu skewers fried with carefully selected bread crumbs. New items are created each season using ingredients such as with clams and sea bream. They also offer sides of sukiyaki grilled wagyu beef, beef soup and more.

A kushikatsu deep fried breaded skewer restaurant located in Osaka’s Kitashinchi area, a neighborhood crowded with first class and renowned restaurants. This famous shop has even been awarded a Michelin star. The restaurant focuses on four areas: ingredients, oil, temperature, and spirit, serving true culinary gems woven together from seasonal ingredients ordinarily reserved for the highest classes of cuisine woven together by the hands of a master. Here diners can enjoy kushikatsu that are a little different from the usual downtown, downhome treat served in Osaka, such as Hungarian foie gras and A5 rank wagyu beef chateaubriand. The restaurant elegantly decorated and, in addition to typical counter seating, there are also semi-private booth tables. The closest station is Kitashinchi Station.

Enjoy the taste of the downtown Shinsekai district at this deep-fried skewered meat restaurant in the first basement floor of the “Osaka station 3 building” in Kita Ward, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture. The many varieties of skewers have a thin bread crumb layer and crunchy texture thanks to the oil, making them perfect as a light snack. This kushikatsu (skewers of fried food) specialist is run by the famous food fighter Giant Shirota and is only a five minute walk from Namba Station. Shirota himself often explores Osaka trying different kushikatsu and wanted to develop a menu that was cheap, delicious and huge. Their Giant Kushikatsu is their most popular dish because of its size, with kamaboko (steamed fish cake), rolled omelet, eggplant, hot dogs, and more, making a rich, filling kushikatsu. Of course you'll want a giant beer to go with your giant meal.

While not the best kushi katsu we had in Osaka, this place is good and fun. A little heavier than our favorite, and a little oiler. I would definitely recommend this as a second stop to compare and...
