The Dotonbori Annex of the famous tonkotsu (pork bone) ramen restaurant Ichiran. The retro Showa fashioned store is adorned with tables where you can enjoy a conversation with friends or family over a bowl of ramen. Their tonkotsu broth is a closely guarded secret refined over many years. Come taste the unique flavor of their noodles paired with a secret blend of chili pepper in their tonkotsu ramen. Ichiran's famous solo counter spaces are also available for the single customer.

One of the best ramen that we’ve ever tried. The ramen has a chewy texture, the broth was flavourful, the meat was tender, and the egg was boiled to perfection.

    Tokyo Chiyoda-ku Marunouchi 1-9-1 Tokyo Station No.1 street B1
This is a concentration of restaurants specializing in ramen located on First Avenue Tokyo Station, just after heading out from JR Tokyo Station’s Yaesu Underground Central Exit. Tokyo Ramen Street opened in 2009 with four shops including the famous Osaki (in Tokyo) tsukemen shop Rokurinsha that consistently attracts long lines. After that, it welcomed new shops from Tokyo’s famous restaurants, and is growing as an established gourmet spot where one can try various kinds of ramen. Businessmen as well as Japanese tourists and people on business trips visit as well.

While all delicious (but any ramen in Japan is delicious), this area is definitely much smaller than I expected. In reality it is only a small handful of ramen restaurants in one area, I am more...

  • Mutekiya
    Gourmet / Alcohol
    Tokyo Toshima-ku Minamikebukuro 1-17-1
A ramen restaurant in Ikebukuro that only has counter seating. Mutekiya offers a menu which will satisfy both your stomach and soul, including the popular Honmaru X, a rich tonkotsu-based shoyu (soy sauce) ramen with plenty of back fat; and the One Pound Doka-Mori Chashumen, which comes with a mountain of thick-cut chashu roast pork. The restaurant also serves novel ramen varieties like the crab miso noodles, made with crab miso shipped direct from Sakaiminato in Tottori; the carefully devised karamen spicy noodles, and the mabodofu-like mazesoba. Another nice thing about Mutekiya is its large selection of toppings, such as ajitama marinated soft-boiled eggs and fried garlic.

    Fukuoka Pref. Fukuokashihakataku Nakasu 5-3-2
This natural pork bone ramen shop opened in 1960 in Fukuoka, and it is the main location of a chain that is beloved nationwide. The soup is light on the unique pork bone taste and aroma, and it contains a secret sauce made from chili peppers that floats on the surface. Visitors can adjust the toughness of the noodles and the richness of the soup as they see fit. This location offers a “concentration counter” in which the seats are separated by walls, allowing customers to focus on enjoying the bowl of ramen in front of them. The atmosphere of the first floor is redolent of food stalls, and many original menu options are available. The closest station is Nakasu-Kawabata Station.

Ill admit that we had ramen almost everyday. I am not ashamed of that. Ichiran is one of the best. Very efficiently organised, you order and pay at a machine outside, then fill in a little form (in...

Tokyo Chiyoda-ku Marunouchi 1-9-1 Tokyo Station No.1 Street Tokyo Underground Northern Tokyo Ramen Street
A hot and rising star in the world of tsukemen (noodles accompanied by a broth for dipping) and is located adjacent to Tokyo Ramen Street just past Tokyo Station’s Yaesu Exit. Rokurinsha established the now-popular style of ultra-thick noodles served with an ultra-thick dipping soup, and is one of the most lined-up for restaurants in Japan. The meat-based dipping soup also incorporates seafood flavors to create a delicious broth you will want to enjoy down to the last drop. Once your noodles are finished, you can request that additional broth be added to the thick dipping soup, watering it down just enough to turn it into an excellent standalone soup.

Ate here twice for lunch and waited about 45 min each time. When you get close, the line attendant will invite you to order through a ticket machine (had English on the buttons). The service fast...

This ramen shop is located in Kamigyo Ward of Kyoto City. This unique Negi Onion Ramen is made with spring onions harvested right in Kujo, Kyoto and heaps of the shop's own spring onion oil. Also called, Fire Ramen, flames erupt when pouring the spring onion oil onto the ramen. Making this a multi-sensory experience of entertainment and taste, which many enjoy.

Ramen Sugita-ya is the first directly managed restaurant by Yoshimura-ya, which is widely known for its iekei-style ramen (pork bone broth with soy sauce and strait noodles). For many years it has carefully preserved the flavor and taste of its birthplace ramen. Large amounts of chicken bones and pork bones are used as a base for a broth of exquisite thickness. The cooks are proud of the careful, rhythmic way in which they drain water from the noodles, for this is one action that helps determine the taste. Inside the shop is a notice board that shows how to eat ramen in a tastier way. The shop opens quite early, at 5:00 a.m.

Superb delicious lamen. Only 15 seats always busy with queues to taste the most marvelous lamen you can eat in Japan. Broth is cooked in large pans. Show lamen cookers

This is a tonkotsu ramen specialty shop in Tenjinnishi Street in the central district of Fukuoka City. One can concentrate on enjoying the taste of ramen in the individually partitioned seating. With the “kamadare” tonkotsu dish, only available in the Tenjinnishi Street shop, one can really savor the rich taste and a full aroma. In addition, the chashu pork here comes from the belly rather than the shoulder, giving it an extra rich flavor. It is a five-minute walk from Nishitetsu Tenjin Omuta Line’s Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station.

The Ichiran-Ramen is exactly how I like my Ramen:Savoury, rich, creamy broth, thin noodles and moreover, you can have spicy seasoning! We came here on a rainy, rather chilly day and it was the...

Tenka Ippin started its life as an outdoor ramen stand in 1971. It owes its continuing popularity to its broth, which is rich but with a clean aftertaste. The restaurant has grown and now has many branches, but the original branch has some unique menu items, and you will find yourself wondering which of the many varieties to choose.

I had a stopover for lunch here during my time in Kyoto. I must admit that Tenkaippin is among the best that serves good ramen. I went to this place twice! I just love it.
